Leroy and Lucie Palmer were hosting a tea for the Tacoma Philharmonic Orchestra committees, at their home on October 27, 1947. The ticket committee, left to right, Helen Murtland, Martha Goettling and Helen Bennett, announced that 500 tickets had already been sold. The newly formed Pacific Northwest Symphony would open the season in December (T. Times, 11/3/47, p. 16).
