Mason Methodist Community House. By August of 1924, construction was underway at the new Mason Methodist Community House, a community hall, adjoining the church at 4008 North 28th St. Groundbreaking had occurred on May 20th. The new $25,000 hall, designed by architects Heath, Gove & Bell, would be dedicated in November of 1924. TPL-495; G22.1-131 (TNT 5-22-24, p. 14-article on groundbreaking)

In June of 1942, soldiers who spent the Saturday night at the Mason Methodist Church gather around the fire Sunday morning in the church's Club Room. There were not enough rooms in Tacoma to house soldiers on wartime weekend leave, so area churches stepped up and offered weekend dormitory housing and a hot breakfast. (TNT 7/5/1942, pg. 1)

Christensen-Swailes wedding. Marjorie Jean Christensen posed on her June 14, 1946, wedding day in a lovely gown of white lace and net with the three-tiered skirt extending in a slight train. Her delicate veil, attached to a crown of starched lace, fell softly past her shoulders. She is holding a cascading bouquet of gardenias and roses. Marjorie, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Christensen, wed Clifford Douglas Swailes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar B. Swailes, in a double ring ceremony at Mason Methodist Church. The graduates of Stadium High School would make their first home in San Diego. (TNT 6-22-46, p. 5) ALBUM 15.

Group of Camp Fire Girls meet at Mason Methodist Church. The Camp Fire Girls honored local leaders at the Fire Maker Tea at the Mason Methodist Church on January 24, 1948. They honored two Tacoma women who had made contributions to the community: Mrs. Charles Mason who brought points of opera interest to the girls and Pansy D. (Mrs. W.W.) Whitehead who founded the Tacoma Story League. Here the girls are listening to Mrs. Whitehead recounting the story of Hansel and Gretel. Names listed in February 7, 1948, Tacoma Times. Mason Methodist Church's Young Married Couples Club sponsored the second annual Baby Show held on Sunday, May 23, 1948, in the church's gymnasium. Registration was done at the door and awards were presented to all contestants. Sitting on the table is believed to be 10-month-old Kitty Knapp who watched as her registration was processed; two other children wait their turns. Fanciest hairdo, biggest eyes, and rosiest cheeks were just a few of the titles awarded to the little winners. (T. Times, 5/22/48, p. 3-article; T.Times 5-24-48, p. 1-article).

Annual baby contest at Mason Methodist Church was sponsored by the Young Married Couples Club. Baby judging was based on "Most Surprising Characteristics" and would be done by Myrna Miller, Harry Burns, and Reverend J. Henry Ernst. Patricia Schaller and Richard D. Gass were married October 12, 1952, at Mason Methodist Church. The bride is the daughter of Lester H. and Faye Schaller. The bridegroom is the son of Conrad P. and Vera Gass. Patricia wore a white satin gown covered with French Chantilly lace above the waist and below in panels down the front and back where the lace extended the length of her train. A French white nosegay of roses and bouvardia and a net ruff made up her bouquet. (TNT, 10/19/1952, p.D-4)

Barbara Jean Anderson and David Frank James were married August 19, 1951, at Mason Methodist Church. Barbara is the daughter of Mrs. Zelma E. Anderson and the late Lawrence Anderson of Olympia. The bridegroom's parents ware Dr. Frank H. and Alice Clark James of Tacoma. The Rev. Frank B. James of Kansas City, Missouri, officiated at the wedding of his grandson. Shirley Lucille Llewellyn and Vaeth Hewitt were married July 14, 1950, at Mason Methodist Church. The bride and her attendants pose together at the church altar. They are, L-R, Lonna Savage (seated), Dianne Poole, Mary Lee Philip, Patricia Eldridge, Mrs. Hewitt, Holly Hewitt, flower girl, Donalda Moncrieff, Beverly Warner, Virginia Carr and Janis Jacobson (seated). The bride's gown was made of white nylon marquisette fashioned with a portrait neckline edged in imported French lace. The pointed bodice was enhanced by a lace peplum and lace cascading down the back panel of the full skirt extended to a court length train. She wore a floor-length mantilla of French lace. The attendants hold fan-shaped bouquets. Their dresses have short capes with Peter-Pan collars. (TNT, 7/16/1950, p.D-2)
