Part of Richards Studio Photographs
ca. 1964. View of Columbian Optical Co., Lakewood branch. Columbian Optical was headed by Lloyd J. Sass and had three locations in Pierce County in 1964, including their newest branch on 100th St. S.W. in Lakewood. The optical store was centrally located between Bridgeport Way and Gravelly Lake Dr., near the Villa Plaza. According to a large ad placed in the October 14, 1964, News Tribune, the business was staffed with skilled personnel and offered a wide range of frames. Extensive wall-to-ceiling glass windows provided plenty of natural light into the contemporary one-story building. It remains at the same location 40 years later. Photograph ordered by National Lumber Manufacturing Assn., Washington, D.C. (TNT Ad 10-14-64, A-2)
