In June of 1967, Gilchrist Buick, Inc., 6004 South Tacoma Way, was a Buick and Opel dealership whose motto was "When Better Cars Are Built, Buick Will Build Them." Located on the site of the former Allen Motor Co., on South Tacoma's Auto Row, the firm was owned and operated by the Gilchrist family. Allen Motor was about to open a new showroom for their complete line of Studebakers. The building would have a curved roof, glassed in showroom with cut-off corners. Trusses by Tacoma Fabrication Co. for new building at Allen Motor Co.

Allen Motor Company, Studebaker dealership. An Open House was held at the new Allen Motor Company Building at 6004 So. Tacoma Way exhibiting the new 1947 Studebaker passenger car and used car premises. The new building was built for $80,000, and was 130 feet by 100 feet. It had a service entrance on South 60th Street as well as an exit onto South Tacoma Way. Allen Motors was an old and established firm in Tacoma. J.K. Gordon was president at this time, James M.H. Gilchrist was vice president and general manager. 7" x 11" format. (T.Times, 10/2/1946, p.2)

Uniformed mechanics were presented with service buttons at the Allen Motor Company on South Tacoma Way Christmas Eve, 1952. Allen Motor Company were authorized Studebaker dealers. Advertising announcing new 1952 Studebakers is painted on the large plate glass windows; there is also a neon "Commander" sign on adjacent window. The man in white coveralls in the second row, second from the right, is Scotty Gordon.

Allen Motor Company had began building a new showroom in 1946, the company was the authorized dealership of Studebaker automobiles in Tacoma. This facility offered their customers new and used cars and trucks, and a full service department.
