Mrs. Wanamaker, a former president of the National Education Association, was appointed by the State Department as a member of the education mision to Japan at the request of General MacArthur. The Lakewood Dance Club presented the "Cotton Ball" for their last dance of the season. The ball was preceded by a southern dinner with fried chicken and corn pone at the Lakewood Terrace recreation hall. Members of the dance committee dressed in southern dress of the 1860's. In October 1949 Zonta International celebrated its 30th anniversary and the Tacoma chapter observed their 21st anniversary.
