Two wide-eyed teens, accompanied by an equally wide-eyed bunny-suited doll, exemplify the theme of the 24th annual Tacoma Home Show, a "Look into the 70s." More than 150 displays would be on hand at the University of Puget Sound Fieldhouse to give present and prospective homeowners a glimpse into the newest and most innovative products to enhance today's lifestyles. Pam Jenkins (l) and Betsy Wilkins (r) were photographed at Ghilarducci's Florists on March 13, 1970. (TNT 3-29-70, B-5)

View from the Kit Kat Tavern. A Chevy Malibu is parked outside, not inside, Fawcett's Garage on April 12, 1969. The brick-and-tile garage, located in the 800 block of Pacific Ave., was owned by Theo B. Fawcett. Designed by architect Silas E. Nelsen, it had been built in 1927 by the Standard Construction Co. Prior to ownership by Theo Fawcett, the site had been the home of Lincoln Electric Co. in the 1930's. It would later become Ghilarducci's California Florists from 1970-1989. Photograph ordered by Harold Bird, Inc.

Exterior view of Ghilarducci's new location. In June of 1969, Ghilarducci's Florists moved to 809 Pacific Ave., one block north of their former shop. Ghilarducci's had been serving Tacoma since 1903. The firm had another store in the Villa Plaza area. Ghilarducci's was headed by L.R. Ghilarducci. Their new location had 13,000 square feet and was formerly an award-winning garage designed by local architect Silas E. Nelsen. It was flanked by Cascade Insurance Underwriters at 805 Pacific Ave. and Dammeier Printing Co. at 811 Pacific. (Full page ad - TNT 6-25-69, A-3; TNT 6-25-69, A-12)

Ghilarducci's at night. The brightly lit interior of Ghilarducci's Florists at their new location of 809 Pacific Ave., in addition to the store's electric signage, beckoned customers in to inspect the remodeled building and its beautiful contents. Ghilarducci's had been supplying Tacomans with flowers since 1903 and had been at their previous location one block south of the new store since 1949. The new shop was much larger at 13,000 square feet and was the former home of Lincoln Auto Electric Co. and originally, an award-winning brick-and-tile garage designed by local architect Silas E. Nelsen. Ghilarducci's decided to keep the brick walls, shown above, that came from the former garage. An elaborate chandelier hung near the winding carpeted staircase. Photograph ordered by Ghilarducci's. (TNT Full page ad 6-25-69, A-3; TNT 6-25-69, A-12)
