Slaughter's Furniture would be celebrating its grand opening in the University Place Shopping Center on Saturday, June 22, 1963. A variety of furniture styles waits to greet customers; patio furniture and living room couches and lamps vie for the discerning eye. The store was located at W. 27th & Grandview in University Place; another store, called Slaughter's Decor, was located in Gig Harbor. Built by Thomas Bros. of reinforced concrete, the U.P. home furnishings store owned by Holt Slaughter would remain in business until plans were made to finally close in 1988. (TNT 6-21-63, p. 6)
