Jane Hatfield, Washington Hardware Company employee, poses with four black-tailed deer, the first to be entered in the store's 1938 game bird and big game contest. All four are above average weight. The hunters were Richard Hofto, E.R. Howell, Emery Kiske and James Johnston Jr. of Orting. (T. Times, 10/4/1938, p. 11).

In 1943 the Poggie Club raffled off an Evinrude Zephyr outboard motor to raise money for their annual Father-Son Derby. Eugene Rubattino, right, was the proud winner. He received his prize at the Washington Hardware Company, 921-23 Commerce Street, from (l to r) Clarence Johnson, Club president, and Everett L. "Tiny" Reynolds, Club Sec. (T. Times 5/5/1943 p.14)

Ralph Lougheed, wearing raincoat, rainhat and fishing waders with rod in hand, stands by pole holding six Steelhead trout, in front of Washington Hardware. Mr. Lougheed is a salesman at Washington Hardware. The large trout in the center, almost 15 pounds, was taken by Sgt. S.M. Ice from the Nisqually River at the mouth of Muck Creek. The others were caught in the Nisqually and Puyallup Rivers. All were taken on light tackle and entered in the All Tacoma Steelhead Derby, sponsored by local sporting goods stores.
