Sound Lockers was owned and operated by G. M. Lindsey and John P. Reidy. The business does not appear in Tacoma's 1947 City Directory but does appear in 1949, therefore it was probably constructed in 1947 and opened for business in late 1947 or early 1948. It was likely a small grocery store and rented frozen food storage compartments. Exterior view of Sound Lockers, photo ordered by Douglas Fir Plywood Association.

Meat hanging from hooks in a walk-in freezer storage unit at Sound Lockers. Most houses did not have large freezers in the 1940s. To store game and large cuts of meat, people would rent space in commercial freezers.
