John F. Reed, a salesman at Regal Shoe Company, 960 Pacific Ave., was the grand prize winner in the Tacoma Times "Ten Best Picture" Contest held in December of 1948. Mr. Reed won a one year movie pass good for free admission to all the major downtown theaters in Tacoma including the Music Box, the Roxy, and the Rialto. This interior view of Regal Shoe Company's stock room shows John Reed holding a copy of the Tacoma Times that featured the "Movie Year in Review... The Ten Best Pictures" for 1948. (T. Times, 12/24/48, p. 9).

Sunnen Crane removing Regal Boot from top of building, Sunnen, spec. Sunnen's portable crane has been parked along Pacific Avenue to remove the large boot advertising the Regal Shoe Store. Possibly the structural members had been damaged during the earthquake in April 1949. The building was being remodeled with George W. Groves as architect and Ketner Brothers as contractors. The firm had been in Tacoma 40 years. W.H. Williams was the current manager. (See D37,290-2) (TNT, 7/30/1949, p.5)
