Scope and content

On March 20, 1947 a panel of local news photographers selected blonde, 5 foot 4 inch Joan Eidson out of a group of 30 contestants to be the Queen of the 1947 Daffodil Festival. Miss Eidson was a 17-year-old senior at Puyallup High School. Her two attendants were Patricia (Patsy) Buffum a Lincoln H.S. senior, and Patricia (Pat) McMahon a senior at Sumner H.S. The Daffodil Queen and her attendants made several appearances prior to the official start of the Daffodil festival. Queen Joan sat on a bench on the Puyallup H.S. auditorium stage, holding a bundle of daffodils, while five news photographers took her picture. (T. Times, 3/21/47, p. 1). TPL-8800
