The Pierce County mobile x-ray unit offered free chest x-rays for students and teachers at Puyallup Junior-Senior High School in Jan. 1949. Nellie Roberts (standing by doorway) was the 50,000th person to get an x-ray. Standing next to Nellie in the line were Paul B. Hanawalt, Puyallup Schools Superintendent, and Adah Sands, Puyallup Schools Health Coordinator. The Pierce County mobile x-ray unit started taking x-rays on January 5, 1948; exactly one year later, they had successfully completed more than 50,000 examinations. The mobile unit took part in the February chest x-ray program in Tacoma (T. Times, 1/8/1948, p. 3).
