Scope and content
Left to right, Helene Hawthorne, Josephine Elizabeth O'Toole, LaVerne Larson, an unidentified student, and Betty Buckles passed a milestone on their way toward becoming nurses on Sunday August 1, 1948. They received their nurses caps. During the capping exercises, which were held at the St. Joseph's Nurses' Home, Sister Mary Jane, O.S.F. , places a caps on each student's head. Wearing their new caps, they proudly hold their Florence Nightingale lamps, as they stand before a statue of the Virgin Mary. (T. Times, 8/2/48, p. 3).
