Scope and content
Exterior view of A.V. Fawcett Elementary School. Fawcett Elementary, located at 126 East 60th Street, was named for Angelo Vance Fawcett, five-time mayor of Tacoma. Contracts to build the school were awarded in June, 1949, and the school opened the following fall. Initially the school only had eight rooms; further expansion has followed through the years. Students now attend Fawcett Elementary in a year-round program. Photograph ordered by Tom Sias, Douglas Fir Plywood Association.
