Scope and content
Dressed as "Lucia Brides" for the St. Lucia Festival in December of 1951 were (left to right) Mildred (Mrs. Harald) Bergerson, Vivian (Mrs. Oak) Otness, Nancy (Mrs. Robert) Benoy and seated, Berdine (Mrs. Ray) Kulla. The four women were presiding over the holiday table at the Christmas tea held at the First Covenant Church. They wore white gowns with red sashes and crowns of lighted candles. The "Lucia Bride" is a symbol of light and charity during the dark winter days and is an advent of the Christmas season. It is observed on December 13th and in the United States often centered around church events in states with a large number of people with Scandinavian ancestry.
