Moses Lake Development, Farm in a Day. (Pictures also dated 5/22/1952) A complete farm was built in Moses Lake to celebrate the coming of irrigation with the erection of the Grand Coulee Dam. The house was gifted to WW II veteran Donald Dunn (standing wearing a tie.) Five of the West Coast's top architects studied farmers' needs and habits before designing the model farmhouse. The design committee was headed by Seattle architect Paul Kirk. William C. Bell of Seattle, managing director of the Western Retail Lumbermen's Association, was general coordinator for the construction phase of the farm. The completed farm, consisting of home, outbuildings, 80 acres of planted fields and livestock, was valued at $75,000 and was completed in 22 hours. Moses Lake Development, Farm in a Day. (Pictures also dated 5/22/1952) The farm was constructed to celebrate the coming of water to the Columbia basin from the vast new storehouse behind the Grand Coulee Dam. At one second past midnight on May 29, 1952, aerial bombs were set off at the site of the new farm in the Columbia basin, and more than 300 volunteer carpenters, bricklayers, electricians, plumbers and general helpers went to work. In predawn, work on house and farm buildings was done under floodlights. The sun rose on the completed frames. The only major preliminary work on the house was the pouring of a concrete slab for the floor. Otherwise, everything was done on site and the farm was completed in 22 hours. ("The Built Him a Farm in a Day" Popular Mechanics, Dec. '52, pg. 118-22)
