Zingler's retained their earlier location at 767-69 South 38th Street when they opened their new store at 1112 Pacific Avenue. The company advertised a sale at the end of June 1949 where you could buy an electric range for $229.50. The company sold sewing machines with parts and repair a specialty, refrigerators, ranges, freezers, washers, and vacuum cleaners. (TNT, 6/24/1949, p.10)

Engines are taken from Ford cars and trucks, then replaced with a rebuilt engine by the Titus plant, payment is made with the trade in of the old engine and cash. Testing includes the engine being spun at over 800 r.p.m. while its operation, sound and oil pressure are carefully monitored. Tacoma Athletic Commission was hosting the first annual city league dinner and stag party. Frank Gillihan, Tacoma Athletic Commission prexy and evergreen Conference Commissioner of Officials, would be presenting the trophy to the city league baseball champions. Tacoma Athletic Commission officials stated the event was a "strictly stag affair" no women were invited (T.N.T., 8/29/49, p. 8).

1949 studio portrait of Vince Cadiente as a young man. Born in 1932, Mr. Cadiente was stationed at Fort Lewis as a part of the HQT Company, 23rd Infantry. He later specialized in Western stunts and in the 1960s was the president of the Screen Extras Guild and more recently, president of the Riders, an organization of professional stunt cowboys. Mr. Cadiente's screen credits included appearances in the Green Berets, Blazing Saddles, and the Great Train Robbery. He also worked in several television series including Bonanza, Gilligan's Island and Star Trek. Mr. Cadiente passed away on February 9, 1996, at age 63. Impeccably dressed from her hat to her white gloves to her shiny black shoes, this unidentified young lady was one of the models in the "Kidyvil Fashion and Dance Review" held on September 1, 1949. Sponsored by the Browns Point Guild of the Tacoma Orthopedic Association, the fall fashion show for childrens clothes was held at Wells Hall, 306 North K Street. Special dance numbers were used to introduce a number of the children. Tea was served to the adults guests, while the younger attendants enjoyed a special punch bowl. (T.N.T., 8/28/49, p. On September 1, 1949, the Browns Point Guild of the Tacoma Orthopedic Association hosted one of the first fall fashion shows of the season, a "Kidyvil Fashion and Dance Review." The event, held at Wells Hall (306 N. K St.), featured fashions for the younger set, from tots to teens. These three unidentified little models, wearing the latest styles in dresses, posed for the camera by a cheery cutout of a clown in front of a circus backdrop. Tacoma's Bonneville Hotel was primarily a residential hotel. The hotel had a beautiful rooftop promenade, a triangular lot, and unique twin towers; the building was demolished in 1966. 1949 view of "dish floral and plant arrangement" which was submitted by Mrs. Leopold Koropp, who resided at the Bonneville Hotel.

Harger-Malonowski Wedding. Miss Beverlyjean Theresa Harger, daughter of Jesse James and Mable Harger, and Mr. Henry Andrew Malanowski, son of Jack Malanowski of Chicago, were married October 8, 1949, at the Church of the Visitation. Rev. Fr. Anslum Lenzlinger performed the nuptial mass. The bride, shown standing on the steps at the altar, wore an old-fashioned gown of white satin, styled with a long train and hoop-skirt. In this photograph from September 1949, Louie Getchell (far right) hands a trophy to one of the winners in that years Washington State Horseshoe Pitching Tournament. Thirty two pitchers participated in the three day event held in Wright Park. Unfortunately neither the News Tribune nor the Seattle Times printed the names of the winners. The two men with Mr. Getchell in this previously unpublished photograph are unidentified. The one at the far right is probably either Dan Graham of Seattle or Mr. A. Cook of Tacoma.
