First meal in new womens' residence hall, College of Puget Sound. Nine of 40 women to live in new quarters gather at table with Carolyn Schneider, housemother, and Dr. and Mrs. Edward Todd, college president. The new hall, named Anderson Hall, was built for $75,000. It would be formally dedicated on February 15, 1939. Names of students are listed in the Tacoma Times article dated February 2, 1939. (T. Mark Griggs, son of Chauncey and Johanna Griggs, and his cat admire their portraits painted by Franz Gerstl. This portrait will be displayed along with other Tacoma owned pieces of art in a show presented by the Tacoma Art League and the Delta Phi Delta Art Honorary Fraternity at the galleries of the College of Puget Sound. Much of the artwork was created by Northwest artists and the portraits are all of prominent area families. Chauncey Griggs was the Director of the St. Paul and Tacoma Lumber Co. May 16th was Campus Day at College of Puget Sound in 1939. As part of the festivities, men students dug in and participated in a "tug- of-war" while being sprayed with water.

Cement pouring at C.P.S. The student population at the College of Puget Sound was growing at a rapid rate in the 1950's and new construction was needed to keep pace. McPhail Engineering Co. won a large contract from the college to build an addition to Anderson Hall, the woman's dormitory, in January, 1954. Addition to women's dormitory. Work continues on the addition to Anderson Hall, the women's dormitory on the campus of the College of Puget Sound in July, 1954. An expanding student population necessitated the construction of many new buildings on the North Warner Street location. Charles McPhail of McPhail Engineering Co. was the general contractor and the addition was designed by local architect, Silas Nelsen. Work was completed in about ten months with an open house being held in November, 1954.

Rhythm class at College of Puget Sound. D. Robert Smith, instructor. Students are equipped with drumsticks and sheet music. D. Robert Smith was the organ instructor at C.P.S. and also the organist-director at First Methodist Church. He is at the extreme right of the photograph's foreground. Professor Smith is leading his students in an exercise developed by Louis Wersen consisting of a sight singing course. The third annual Pansy Ring Tea took place at the College of Puget Sound on May 15, 1955. It was sponsored by the active members and alumnae of the Phi Zeta chapter of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. The tea honors senior women and is a tradition of nearly all Tri Delta chapters in the United States and Canada. The tea featured a style show, climaxed by a bridal party. All engaged and recently married seniors received special recognition. (TNT 5/8/1955, pg. D-6)

There would be 163 candidates for degrees at C.P.S.'s 67th Commencement held on June 5, 1955. Governor Langlie's topic would be "Putting Meaning into Life."
