This drawing closely resembles Marie Louise Quevli, the youngest daughter, who in 1936 appeared in the Broadway musical comedy "May Wine."

She holds out the hem of her dress as a woman standing to the side demonstrates the technique to her. This same young girl with the pixie haircut is featured in a series of Dance studio photographs ordered by Walt Sutter. She is most probably his granddaughter.

Northwest Brewing took over the building in 1931, adding to the original structure. Silver Springs Brewery purchased the structure in 1950 for their plant. It was torn down in 1986 to make room for the "Tacoma Spur" Freeway. (filed with Argentum)

ca. 1932. Church of the Holy Communion. Built in 1929, the church was designed by A.S. Leeper, architect. The foundation is in the shape of the cross.

ca. 1932. First Evangelical Lutheran Church. This Gothic structure was built in the 1920's from a design by Heath, Gove & Bell, architects. It is built of tapestry brick and trimmed with Tenino stone. The interior is of oak. Construction on the church was started in late 1925 but it was not completed until 1929.

ca. 1932. Dorothy Apartments, No. 3rd & Tacoma Avenue. The Dorothy Apartments were built in 1928 by H.J. Schneider and named after his daughter. The 29 units were intended for exclusive city dwelling with their North End location and lush mahogany interiors. TPL-849, BU-10531

ca. 1932. Goodwill Industries building, circa 1932, with the storefront for their resale store left of the doorway. The Goodwill building was constructed in 1930. Frederic and Stanley T. Shaw were the architects and W.T. Post was the contractor. It was built at a cost of $75,000. This structure was vacated by Goodwill in the mid-1960's when the organization moved to Center Street and this building became a rental office building. Goodwill Industries was founded in 1902 in Boston by Dr. Edgar J. Helms, a Methodist minister, who devised it as a way for the poor and immigrants to support their families. His philosophy of "Give a hand up, not a hand out" became the focal point of the Industries' work.

ca. 1932. The Bay City Market and cafe in the Hoffman Block, 1144-46 Pacific Ave., circa 1932. The Hoffman Block was built in 1908 and was the location for the Morris Gross store and later the Central Public Market. In 1932, the storefront was remodeled by Emory Morgan, Architect, for the Bay City Market. Employees in uniform posed in front, NRA posters in windows, Dr. Norris' Tacoma Dental Parlors on second floor, Hotel Ridpath above. The building has since been demolished. (filed with Argentum)

ca. 1932. This is the Shaub-Ellison Building, 1902 Pacific Ave., circa 1932. The super-service station, a Goodyear franchise, opened at the beginning of the year. Partners Charlie Ellison and Roe Shaub started business in 1920 at 7th & Commerce before moving to the Pacific Avenue location. This was their only location throughout the Depression and WWll. The University of Washington would purchase the property in 1993 for their Tacoma campus and the Art Deco-styled building was demolished in 1995.
