University Union Club. On June 10, 1939 the Union Club, founded in 1888, and the University Club, founded in 1906, merged together. They became the University Union Club and had over 350 members. White was shot and killed in 1906 by Harry Thaw, apparently out of jealousy over the relationship between Thaws's wife and White.
