Rainbow Convention. The 21st State Assembly was held in Tacoma in June of 1947. Eleven people stand on the stage. An older couple are in the middle, the woman holding long-stemmed flowers. Miss Margaret Arnold of Renton was Grand Worthy Advisor of the Grand Assembly of the Order of Rainbow for Girls in Washington, Idaho and Alaska. She presided over this assembly. Rainbow Convention. Pierce County Rainbow Girls hosted the 21st annual session of the Grand Assembly of the Order of the Rainbow for Girls June 22, 23 and 24, 1947. 1,500 girls from Washington, Idaho and Alaska met for the 25th anniversary of Rainbow in Washington State. Rainbow Convention. The Pierce County Rainbow Girls were hostesses to the 21st annual session of the Grand Assembly of the Order of the Rainbow for girls which was held June 22, 23, and 24, 1947. Over 1,500 young ladies from Washington, Idaho, and Alaska attended. Several drill teams performed. The winning teams were announced on the afternoon of the last day. The Order of AHEPA held their meetings at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. They participated in the annual bazaar held for the "Athenian Holiday", where you could find authentic Greek foods, pastries and handicrafts, all prepared by the Daughters of Penelope of the Order of AHEPA, the women's auxiliary group. Ivanhoe Commandery of the Knights Templar. Members of the Knights Templar are dressed in decorated robes, uniforms, hats and crowns in front of a stage hung with a large cross at the Masonic Temple. York Rites delegates to the annual state convention arrived Saturday, May 10, 1947, for meetings of the three grand bodies. The meetings of the twenty-eight commanderies of the Knights Templar was highlighted by a parade from the Masonic Temple to the First Christian Church on May 11th, 1947. This was the 60th conclave of grand commandery of Knights Templar of Washington (T.Times, 5/9/1947, p.1)

Epsilon Sigma Alpha Jewel Pin Ceremony. Four new pledges were presented with their pins and wristlets made up of golden chrysanthemums and tied with blue ribbons (the sorority's colors are blue and gold). The new members, Frances Karr, Arlene Hefferon, Mrs. John Crawford and Elsa L. Roberts, are seen seated. The many small stuffed animals they are holding and are on the floor are part of the social Christmas work being done by the sorority to be given to underpriviledged children. They met at the Green Parrot Inn located 8 miles north of Tacoma on Highway 99 at the Puyallup cut off. (T.Times, 11/26/1946, p.10)

Elks Club, publicity for Stocking Fillers. A new organization in the Tacoma Lodge of Elks is the F.K.S. Construction Company to rehabilitate the Elk's facilities and construction at the Temple. F.K.S. comes from the names of their three officers, L-R above, Max Frolic, Rinaldo Keasal and Walter Sutter. After one railroad car was filled with scrap steel on March 7, 1943, the volunteers from the Eagles pushed it to another location to wait for transport to a Seattle steel mill. On March 7, 1943, the members of the fraternal order of Eagles turned out in force at "Scrap Iron Acres," Pierce County's salvage depot near the Pacific Match Co. at 3223 So. Union. They were volunteering their time to help sort some of the 3,000 tons of salvage metal and load steel onto a railroad car for transport to a Seattle Steel mill. By the end of the day 65 tons of steel was on its way to be converted to tools of war. (T. Times 3/8/1943, pg. 1)

At noon on March 7, 1943, the Lady Eagles turned up at the Pacific Match Co. cafeteria to feed all the hungry Eagle workers at "Scrap Iron Acres," donating their time to sort salvage to go to the mill. Lee Croft, past president of the Tacoma Eagles, would leave by plane on August 12, 1942 for Chicago where he would represent the local aerie at the National Convention, August 13-16. Only past presidents were able to be representatives to the convention and Mr. Croft had filled all stations at the Aerie. He joined the Eagles in Aberdeen in 1900. In deference to the war, the convention would be very streamlined, no parades, pageants or outdoor gatherings. (TNT 8/13/1942 p.9)

They were boxing up gifts at the home of Mrs. Warren Gilman for shipment to the Shriners Hospitals in Spokane and Salt Lake City. The Grand Chapter of the State of Washington, Order of the Eastern Star, opened their "Victory Session" at Fellowship Hall in the Masonic Temple on June 18, 1942. The Grand Officers posed for a group portrait for the 59th annual meeting. Hanging above them are flags from many nations. Since America was at war then the flags shown are from some of their allies, including Great Britain and the USSR. Silhouettes of Presidents Washington and Lincoln flank the officials on stage. 1500 Eastern Star members attended the meeting.
