Doris E. Wharton and Sgt. Milton G. McAtee of Fort Lewis were married on February 1, 1942 in the loft of the YWCA with Dr. J. Renwick McCullough officiating. The bride, daughter of S.G. Wharton, was a graduate of Clover Park High School. Miss Wharton wore an ivory satin gown, princess style with a sweetheart neckline, and a full length train. Her attendants were dressed similarly and carried small bouquets of flowers. The bride later changed into a blue dress, black fur jacket and blue accessories for her wedding trip. Buness-Payne Wedding. 300-400 guests were present at the double ring ceremony uniting Evelyn Lorraine Buness and Clinton Dwight Payne on June 18, 1948. The evening nuptials were held at Bethesda Baptist Church and officiated by the Rev. Marion Flint. Louise Buness, the bride's sister, was her maid-of-honor and the groom's brother, Bud, was his best man. The bride wore a floor-length ivory satin gown with beadwork on the front. Her bouquet had a large orchid and stephanotis. Evelyn is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Buness and Clinton is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Payne. The couple both attended Lincoln High School. After their wedding trip to California and (New) Mexico, they planned to make their home at 7048 South Fawcett in Tacoma. Lockwood-Boyle wedding. Carol-Lu Wesson Lockwood and Donald James Boyle were joined in holy matrimony in a morning ceremony at St. John of the Woods Church on November 17, 1951. This was a very large wedding with ten attendants in addition to two flower girls and two ring-bearers. The bride wore her mother's cream colored satin wedding gown. Her veil was bordered with Chantilly lace and fastened onto a pearl and silver beaded tiara. The bride and groom honeymooned in California and Mexico. (TNT 12-15-51, p. 5)

Wedding portrait of Dorothy Mae Naper, bride of Cpl. James Raymond Miller of the U.S. Army, on her wedding day Friday January 26, 1951. Miss Naper, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence A. Naper, and Mr. Miller, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul L. Miller of Johnstown, Pa., were united in a double ring ceremony at Oakland Presbyterian Church. The bride's gown was white satin with long pointed sleeves and a lace flounce on the bodice. The nylon net insert at the neckline matched the skirt of satin and nylon net. The waist length net veil flowed from a classic headdress with a cluster of orange blossoms at one side. The bouquet was of freesias, rosebuds and orchids. Mrs. David T. Selby was the matron of honor in ice pink satin and nylon net. Mrs. Alan F. Kelly and Miss Caroline DeRosa were the attendants and wore blue and yellow taffeta respectively. Edward E. Sumiec was Best Man and the ushers were Edward Rutecki and Everett Ent. The newlyweds established their new home at 4849 1/2 So. Yakima Ave. (TNT 1-28-1951, pg. D-3, TNT 2-5-1951, pg. 15)

Wedding picture of Shirley Frances Dezellem and Donald Dale Pease, married 6/23/1951 at Mason Methodist Church. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Dezellem of Bridgeport and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.F. Pease of Tacoma. The couple was married by Reverend Bessie Pease, the aunt of the bridegroom. The bride wore ivory brocaded satin with a full train, bustle back and a net yoke trimmed in lace. The veil was of white marquisette trimmed with large lace flowers and fastened to a cap of small seed pearls. The bouquet was of cream colored ophelia in a diamond shape, fashioned after the bride's Alpha Delta Pi sorority pin with a trailing chain of stephanotis. The maid of honor wore lime green marquisette with satin piping on the bodice and a Dutch cap. The bridesmaids wore yellow and the flower girls orchid. The 150 guests were invited to the reception in the church parlors. The couple made their first home in Cleveland, Ohio. (TNT 7/1/1951, pg. D-7)

She and Lt. William Collingwood Johnston were married April 21, 1951, at Visitation Church. Anne chose a gown of imported white Chantilly lace and a fingertip length veil of illusion. Her bouquet was of eucharist lilies, stephanotis and blush pink gardenias. She had attended the Helen Bush School in Seattle and was a graduate of the Eastman School of Music. Lt. Johnston, U.S. Army, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Johnston of South Haven, Michigan. He was a graduate of Michigan State College and was aide-de-camp to General Leroy H. Marilyn Giesy and Leonard Eugene Estes on their wedding day June 30,1951 at the First Baptist Church. 700 guests were present at their candlelight ceremony in the sanctuary. The bride was the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Archie Giesy and the groom was the son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Leonard Estes. The bride's five attendants were dressed in Nile green organdy embossed with lilly of the valley and carried bouquets of pink and orchid sweet peas. The bride wore a gown of ivory slipper satin with a yoke of Alencon lace and a Peter Pan satin collar. The gown had a full circular skirt with a court length train. The bride wore a bonnet of shirred net trimmed with pink rosebuds and lilly of the valley, with a fastened fingertip veil of imported French illusion. She carried a bouquet of stephanotis and pale yellow sweetheart roses with a white orchid topping a white prayer book. Franklin Thompson, president of the College of Puget Sound, officiated at the nuptials. Miss Shore was given in marriage by Ben B. Cheney, a close friend of the family.The bride designed her own wedding costume and gowns for her attendants. She wore an ice-blue satin floor-length gown with a victorian neckline, long sleeves, fitted bodice and voluminous skirt. Joan Thrasher tries on a lace wedding gown at the Bon Marche, as multiple mirrors reflect back her image. This photograph was shot for the TNT 1952 bridal layout. Joan Thrasher married Allen Jerome Morgan June 14, 1952 in the Christ Episcopal church. The ceremony was followed by a reception at the Tacoma Lawn Tennis club. The bride was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James W. Thrasher of Tacoma and the groom the son of the Allen B. Morgans of Seattle. After the wedding, the couple left for Massachusetts, where the bridegroom served as coxswain for the Washington Athletic club-sponsored shell at the Olympic trials. Both Mr. and Mrs. Morgan graduated from the University of Washington, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta and the Totem Club. Before the wedding, she had taught at the University Place grade school. While at the U of W, the groom was the president of Chi Psi, and belonged to Big W and the Varsity Boat club.
