Wedding picture of Shirley Frances Dezellem and Donald Dale Pease, married 6/23/1951 at Mason Methodist Church. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Dezellem of Bridgeport and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.F. Pease of Tacoma. The couple was married by Reverend Bessie Pease, the aunt of the bridegroom. The bride wore ivory brocaded satin with a full train, bustle back and a net yoke trimmed in lace. The veil was of white marquisette trimmed with large lace flowers and fastened to a cap of small seed pearls. The bouquet was of cream colored ophelia in a diamond shape, fashioned after the bride's Alpha Delta Pi sorority pin with a trailing chain of stephanotis. The maid of honor wore lime green marquisette with satin piping on the bodice and a Dutch cap. The bridesmaids wore yellow and the flower girls orchid. The 150 guests were invited to the reception in the church parlors. The couple made their first home in Cleveland, Ohio. (TNT 7/1/1951, pg. D-7)

Dedication ceremonies for the Seattle-Tacoma Airport at Bow Lake were held on July 9, 1949. After 6 1/2 years of construction, the $11,000,00 field and its $4,000,000 glass and concrete terminal were ready to serve the public and four major airlines--Northwest, Western, Pan-American and United. The passenger terminal and administration building featured underground parking and an open observation deck across the entire field side of the building. TPL-9285

Thomas J. Porro, president of the Tacoma Public Library Board of Trustees, addresses the crowd on the occasion of groundbreaking for the new central building at the Main Library. The March 20, 1951, event began at 4 p.m. and included speeches by Mr. Porro, Mayor John Anderson, and Silas E. Nelsen, library architect. In attendance were members of the city council, library board of trustees, library employees and building contractors. Behind the speaker's podium was an oversized billboard expressing how the library's resources could be used by patrons of all ages and interests. The public service message is a timeless one which still resonates in today's culture. The new portion of the Main Library, built with a concrete frame with Walker-cut stone facing, would be officially dedicated on November 2, 1952. (TNT 3-18-1951, A-6-article on new library)

Party goers from the Lakewood Dance Club's "Alaskapades" party at the Lakewood Center Recreation Hall. Party goers dressed as Eskimos, native Americans and gold rush characters for this costume ball. The hall was decorated with igloos and totem poles to carry out the Gold Rush theme.

Wedding portrait of Avonne Nadine Nelson and Lt. Truman Everett Boudinot, Jr. Miss Nelson, daughter of Mrs. Hazel Morton Nelson, and Lt. Boudinot, son of Mrs. Truman Boudinot of Beverly Hills, Ca. and the late Brigadier General Boudinot, were married on a Friday afternoon, January 12, 1951, in Raynor Chapel at the Annie Wright Seminary with Reverend Arthur Bell officiating at the single ring ceremony. Miss Nelson wore a pastel pink Adrian suit with an off white straw hat trimmed with white velvet flowers and carried a bouquet of carnations, pink roses and white stephanotis. The maid of honor was Miss Constance Brady and the best man was Robert Winskill. After the ceremony, the couple left for a three week motor tour of Santa Barbara and Palm Springs. Miss Barnum's gown was white satin with a lace bodice. The train was long and her veil of illusion, three-quarter length, was fastened to a coronet of seed pearls. Santa Claus attended the Christmas party for Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company women employees in 1950. The 28 women and their male supervisor gather around a Christmas tree in the company's lounge. Each of the women wears a corsage. Pacific Telephone and Telegraph provided an employee benefit plan that provided continuing paychecks during illness after being with the company two years and a pension plan. Wedding portrait of Dorothy Mae Naper, bride of Cpl. James Raymond Miller of the U.S. Army, on her wedding day Friday January 26, 1951. Miss Naper, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence A. Naper, and Mr. Miller, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul L. Miller of Johnstown, Pa., were united in a double ring ceremony at Oakland Presbyterian Church. The bride's gown was white satin with long pointed sleeves and a lace flounce on the bodice. The nylon net insert at the neckline matched the skirt of satin and nylon net. The waist length net veil flowed from a classic headdress with a cluster of orange blossoms at one side. The bouquet was of freesias, rosebuds and orchids. Mrs. David T. Selby was the matron of honor in ice pink satin and nylon net. Mrs. Alan F. Kelly and Miss Caroline DeRosa were the attendants and wore blue and yellow taffeta respectively. Edward E. Four of the attendees at the 1951 Governor's Ball that was held at the Armory in Olympia. Several thousand Washingtonians attended the traditional Govenor's Ball to honor the state's chief executive. This year's ball occurred only two days after the opening of the 32nd legislative session. The Governor's Ball was followed by a legislative dance February 7th given by members of the Legislature. Large crowds fill the College of Puget Sound fieldhouse at the start of the Greater Tacoma Gospel Crusade on March 16, 1952. Gov. Arthur B. Langlie officially welcomed the crusade to Tacoma; city council members were also in attendance. The crusade was sponsored by 50+ churches of varying denominations with Rev. Ralph Erickson as head of the executive committee. Merv Rosell, a 39-year-old California evangelist, was the featured speaker; he is a traveling evangelist who spoke to over a million people the previous year. He was accompanied by Hilding Halvarson, song evangelist, who directed the crusade music and Howard and Ada Skinner of Michigan, noted organists and singers. Interior view of C.P.S. fieldhouse during gospel crusade. Large crowds attended the opening rally of the Greater Tacoma Gospel Crusade on March 16, 1952, held at the College of Puget Sound fieldhouse. 39-year-old California evangelist Merv Rosell was the featured speaker; he had spoken to over a million people during the past year. Rosell, a close friend of Billy Graham, had drawn thousands to his recent crusades in Kansas City and Des Moines. The crusade was sponsored by over 50 churches of different denominations, headed by Rev. Ralph Erickson's executive committee. Gov. Arthur B. Slusher-McCarthy wedding. The Church of the Visitation was the site of the Maxine Slusher/Edward McCarty nuptials on October 13, 1951. The double-ring ceremony was officiated by the Rev. Father Anslem. The bride wore a ballerina length gown of white satin with an overdress of net and a lace apron. This was a very large wedding with ten attendants in addition to two flower girls and two ring-bearers. The bride wore her mother's cream colored satin wedding gown.
