In February of 1950, six volunteers were busy packing materials for the American Red Cross fund-raising campaign at the organization's offices at 306 So. 7th St. They were, L-R, Myra (Mrs. R.G.) Glanville, Eleanor Dickinson, Marie Schmide, Mrs. Eric Aleryd, Betty Lambeth and Blanche Stempczynski. Posters for the campaign were tacked up behind the women. Ted Knightlinger, center, tells a group of young misses about the plans for the annual Elks Father and Daughter party to be held on February 17, 1950 at the Elks Temple, 565 Broadway. Mr. Knightlinger was chairman for the event where members of the Tacoma lodge hosted their daughters to a gala party and show, and presented them with corsages as favors. Afifi Shrine members give big smiles to their young guests as they plan the annual Shrine picnic. The three little girls and young boy are all holding paper ice cream cones as are two of the committee men. The picnic in 1951 was held at the chateau of the Tacoma Sportsmen's Club near the Brookdale Golf Club. It featured contests, ball games, a concert by the Afifi Band, family dinner and closing dance. Grand officers of the Royal Arch Masons of Washington and Oregon were among Masons gathered at the sandstone quarry in Tenino on August 5, 1950. They were present to confer the Mark Master degree. The ritualistic work of the Mark Master degree is built around a legendary incident which took place during the quarrying of stone for the building of King Solomon's temple. (TNT 8-1-50, p. 26)

ca. 1950. Interior photograph of club. It is five minutes to one and the dance floor is empty. The piano, drums and jukebox are silent at the Tacoma Aerie No. 3 chapter of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. The grand opening of new club rooms at 13th and Fawcett Avenue was on October 4, 1940. Barely a year later, the Eagles celebrated the opening of the club's completely remodeled lounge and basement quarters. It was necessary to have additional space due to the large increase of members who would be able to enjoy the new furnishings and modernistic furniture. ca. 1950. Mel Pedersen holds on to a Tacoma Master Builders Association desktop sign and jointly grips a warranty deed with probably Edward Miller in 1950. Pedersen is the president of the association which prided itself on quality workmanship. Each year the Master Builders sponsored the National Home Week, generally held in September.

A large contingent of Master Builders met at the Top of the Ocean restaurant on November 29, 1950. The group was composed of local contractors and others in the building industry who were proud of their craftsmanship. They had their association headquarters at 1103 1/2 Division Ave.

The Tacoma Master Builders combined the installation of their 1951 officers and their Christmas Party for 1950 at the New Yorker Cafe. Dinner at New Yorker, Last Man Club American Legion, December 10, 1949. Nineteen men pose with six empty chairs draped with American flags during their annual meeting held at the New Yorker. The Last Man Club was composed of World War I veterans who were past Commanders of the Rhodes Post of the American Legion. Capt. Each year the Elks Club made full use of members' musical and acting talents in the Elks Extravaganza. Members were not shy in performing before other members and invited guests; their costumes often were women's clothing and wigs. Scout Jamboree, ordered by Ed Richards. A pack leader poses with his group. They are garbed in Native American regalia, probably to appear in a demonstration. These boys appear to be older and are probably Boy Scouts not Cub Scouts. Scouts involved in the annual Scout Exposition at the College of Puget Sound Fieldhouse May 4-5, 1956 were between the ages of 10 and 16. Various troops from Pierce County would be performing demonstrations. Lincoln, Lakes and Southeast demonstrations would be on Friday and Northwest, Peninsula and Valley Mountain would perform on Saturday. Demonstrations would include knot-tying, first aid, canoe building, marksmanship and leather craft. (TNT 5/2/1956, pg. A-4)

The Tacoma Rescue Mission remodeled Recreation Room and library. Tables with fresh daffodils sit surrounded by chairs. Full book shelves line one wall, while a piano waits against another for someone to strike up a tune. Fluorescent lighting illuminates the walls decorated with plaques of selected scriptures. The remodeled exterior of the Tacoma Rescue Mission. The location consisted of two buildings, the Keown building at 1512 Pacific Ave. built in 1907 and the Grays Harbor Hotel Building at 1510 Pacific Ave. built in 1901. It was remodeled in 1956 to make it appear as one structure. The buildings that served as the Mission's home for 15 years were closed for four months in 1956 for a $20,000 face lift. The remodel included covering the joined exterior surface with Quikbrik. Quikbrik was finely ground brick mixed with binders and Portland cement applied by plasterers with a trowel. While still pliable, the brick was cut with patented templates and hardened to a brick like finish. The new brick facade gave the mission a bright appealing look. The dedication service for the remodeled building was held April 15, 1956. The neon sign out front read "Eternity Where Jesus Saves." The building was torn down in 2002 to make way for the Convention Center project site.
