College of Puget Sound summer band camp group posed on the campus. For the first time, the music department of CPS would be offering a program combining music study with vacation and recreation. The camp would be open to high school students receiving a superior rating in solo and ensemble playing, who exhibit scholarship and good character. The students would live at the college and be given a private lesson each week as well as instruction in harmony and arranging. In addition, the group would perform several concerts throughout the summer. Sixty five students participated in the first month long camp. (T. Former State Senator and College of Puget Sound history professor Walter Davis, for alumni magazine. Hat in hand, Sen. Davis poses on the brick steps leading to Jones Hall on the campus of the College of Puget Sound. He represented the people of the 27th District in the State Legislature for eight consecutive terms from 1913-1929. All the while he remained a college professor, having come to CPS in 1907 to teach history and political science. He was a member of the Board of Curators of the Historical Society since 1914, a member of the Tacoma Park Board from 1927-32 and a director of Central Bank since the bank's founding. Sen. College of Puget Sound Tamanawas group. The Tamanawas group was in charge of publishing the annual yearbook, they selected photos that represented the school years activities, as well as included general student body photos. Lord Halifax, British Ambassador to the United States, at the College of Puget Sound (now UPS) to receive a honorary Doctorate of Laws. Jones Hall, the Main campus building, is in the background. After lunching at Kittredge Hall, Lord Halifax and his party were scheduled to visit the British American War Relief work center on So. 11th St., and then speed on to the Boeing plant. Puget Sound's chapter was the fifth formed nationally in 1925.

Members of the advanced choral reading group at the College of Puget Sound presented "An Evening of Poetry" on February 23, 1945 at Jones Hall. Highlights of the varied program included a stirring word picture of an Atlantic sea wind, the adventures of prowling witches and leering goblins on a mystic night, and the battling love life of the "Gingham Dog and Calico Cat". The second Golden Gloves Boxing Tournament was sponsored by the Tacoma Athletic Commission and was held at the College of Puget Sound Fieldhouse. Teams entered from Seattle, West Seattle, Portland, Everett, Bremerton and Vancouver, B.C. Fort Lewis made formidable entries in all the weights from the fly-poundage to the heavyweights. Booth at second annual Greater Tacoma Home Show for Lo Heet stainless steel cookware. The Home Show took place March 21-26, 1950 at the College of Puget Sound fieldhouse. The signs emphasized the need for every new bride to add Lo Heet cookware to her hope chest.

College of Puget Sound had a ground breaking ceremony for their new building, the CPS Memorial Field House. The Memorial Field House will be dedicated to the 138 men from CPS who died in World War II. The Field House will be located on the south side of campus, it will have a steel reinforced concrete foundation, the building will be 200 feet by 168 feet and 36 feet from the floor to the overhead beams; it will accommodate more than 5,000 people. CPS. Marcello Mochi, center, was the Italian vice consul stationed in Seattle. He came to Tacoma to meet with the World Affairs Council October 5, 1948, at the College of Puget Sound. He told about the Italian struggle and some of the war-torn areas where he served during the Ethopian conflict and World War II. Shown with Mr. Mochi are Ray W. Heatlox Furnaces Incorporated manufactured three different types of furnaces and heating systems: conventional controls, modulated controls and multiple zone systems. The company also offered a complete line of "Minneapolis-Honeywell" controls and "Moduflow". Exterior view of the home that Wollander Farwest Homes and Wollander Better Builder Plans designed and built for Tacoma's first annual home show; this house was on display at College of Puget Sound's new Memorial Fieldhouse gymnasium. This house was designed and built in about three weeks, people who attended the home show could register to win this home and landscaped yard, which was valued at $8,500 (T.N.T., 4/26/49, p. 26).

The roof trusses for the College of Puget Sound's Memorial Field House were erected in December 1948. The roof supporting trusses were made of Douglas Fir, weighed 12 tons each, and were 168 feet long and 23 feet high. At the time the field house was built, its trusses were the longest single wood spans in one section ever to be erected, according to Weyerhaeuser Timber Company. The trusses were manufactured in Weyerhaeuser's Longview Mill. The trusses were 60 feet from the ground, and supported 90,000 feet of roof decking. (T. Times, 12/10/48, p. 1).

Layout on Beaux Arts Ball, Times, Mrs. MacDonald. A party named after the School of Fine Arts in Paris was held at Jones Hall at the College of Puget Sound. It was hosted by the art honorary fraternity, Alpha Rho Tau (Greek letters for ART), in honor of the college's foreign students. On February 12, 1949, the art honorary fraternity of the College of Puget Sound, Alpha Rho Tau, threw their very first Beaux Arts Ball. The party was given in honor of the College's foreign students and drew students dressed in all sorts of lavish, exotic and creative costumes. A masked couple glided by in fanciful dress; she a column of black and white ruffles and he a rectangular knight. Other couples looked on from tables near a wall decorated with modern drawings. All of the revelers were unidentified with the exception of the woman directly left of the female dancer. She was Maxine Lister, the winner of the first prize for most original costume. University of Washington faculty member, Jeanette Tomlinson, would be presenting a lecture on "Art, Peace and UNESCO." Mrs. Tomlinson would speak about UNESCO and its place in the world of arts; and would define the organization's aim at promoting peace through art.
