The glass-encased multi-story fine arts annex at Lincoln High School was dedicated in November of 1957 and open for public viewing as part of the annual Back-to-School night and observance of American Education Week. It was the first major improvement at the school in several years. The modernistic steel and concrete Fine Arts Building is adjacent to the ivy-covered walls of the main building. Sunnbonnett Girl operetta held at Lincoln High School, Stewart High School, Neal Wynn. The Tacoma Council of Parents and Teachers sponsored the operetta as a benefit for the March of Dimes. The cast included students from the College of Puget Sound, Lincoln High School and Stewart Junior High School. Between the acts Stadium High School students presented speciality numbers. The program was presented at Lincoln High School February 4th and 5th, 1949. (TNT, 2/2/1949, p.26)

Lincoln High School had a large and thriving band in the 1950's. Members, pictured performing in the school auditorium in a January, 1953, photograph, were impressively dressed in dark uniforms with gold shoulder braid. Under the direction of Robert Dezell, who also directed the school orchestra, the Lincoln band performed for each basketball and football game. They, like the school orchestra, traveled to junior high schools in the area to promote Lincoln's fine musicians. The band was honored to represent the City of Tacoma and Lincoln High School in the annual Wenatchee Apple Blossom Festival where they marched in the parade and participated in the band jamboree. Lincoln High School band for the 1954 school yearbook The Lincolnian. The band, under the direction of Robert Dezell, played at basketball and football games. They played concerts at the middle schools and broadcast two performances on KMO. The highlight of their year was their "Bach to Pop" concert in March. (1954 Lincolnian- see yearbook for names)

Lincoln High School students assembled around the school's statue of Abraham Lincoln during this Memorial Day (May 29) 1924 celebration honoring veterans as well as the martyred President after whom the school has been named. The outdoor ceremony replaced the indoor ones of previous years and was sponsored by school service organizations, Knights of Lincoln and the Takolah Club. During the 1924 Memorial Day ceremony at Lincoln High School, Eunice Huseby, left, president of the Takolah Club, and Florence Anderson, right, president-elect, placed a floral wreath at the foot of the school's statue of Abraham Lincoln. The girls, dressed in white skirts and blouses, stood on a makeshift platform. The students at Lincoln had planned a ceremony that honored the school's namesake as well as veterans. Lincoln High School presented its annual Christmas program on December 22, 1931. The 60-piece orchestra and 100-member chorus posed together with director, Margaret Goheen (far left, first row). Handel's "Messiah, " Lincoln High School's oratorio was so much in demand that a repeat performance was held the following Sunday at Mason Methodist Church. 2600 people wanted free admission to the school performance but the school auditorium only had 1500 seats. The News Tribune reported that the students gave a fine performance with a pleasing appearance by the singers, dressed in black and white surplices for the chorus and white for the soloists. In February of 1922, Manley Edwards (extreme right, front row) was elected president of Lincoln High School's newly organized Radio Club. The club had attracted over 40 male and female students, many of whom were licensed radio operators, and was looking to add more members. Faculty advisor A.J. Bell had organized classes in radio which were held during school hours and were taught by club members. The Board of Education had given a gift of $150 to buy a radio set, but the club members decided to build their own instead using the school's electrical shop. Names of the club members were listed in the Tacoma Daily Ledger's April 5, 1922, issue. Lincoln High School students were Santa's helpers in 1922 when they reached out to make Christmas a merrier time for many local children. Students had donated used toys which were refurbished and made "new" by the sewing, art, and manual training classes on campus. The newspaper staff of the Lincoln High School News started the drive by traveling to various homes to pick up donations. They are believed to be pictured above along with the numerous dolls, balls, books and other toys they collected. Santa's helpers. Six members of the Lincoln High School News returned to school on December 19, 1922, loaded down with used toys that were donated by generous Lincoln High students. The newspaper staff had traveled to student homes to collect the toys, most of which were in need of repair. Thanks to the school newspaper, and the hard work of the manual training, sewing and art classes at Lincoln, many local children would receive toys that had been refurbished until they were as good as new. The steady and skillful hands of Lincoln's students repaired toys ranging from tricycles, drums, kiddie cars, and sleds to automobiles, toy horses, chairs & beds and hundreds of dolls. The school hoped to make their Santa's Workshop an annual event. An article in the December 24, 1922, Sunday Ledger identified the students in the above photograph as (l to r): Carl Schmid, Lloyd Eberhart, Morrill Folsom, Constance Markuson, Norma Huseby and John McKown. Lincoln High School Orchestra. Lincoln High School in 1924 had two orchestras, with 62 in the senior group and 55 in the junior. They were led by Mr. Nason (standing at left in first row). The orchestra played at all assemblies, concert-dramas movie nights and for several civic organizations. Thirteen Lincoln High School girls, wearing bathing suits and high heels, clustered around an unidentified male student in February of 1941. The girls, who were participating in the "Poise, Posture and Personality" contest at the school, were also hoping to be cast in the school Music Department production of "Of Men and Models". The student written and scored musical comedy, to be directed by student LeRoy "Lee" Hale, told the story of a football hero who inherited a 5th Avenue dress shop. Standing in the back are: (l to r) Betty Snyder, Florence Anderson, Carol Lind, Lois Dahl, Matilda Drennen, Mary Sandford, Doris Davey and Mary Anne Wilkins. The other five girls are: (l to r) Janet Wolters, Martha Farrell, Garnet Thompson, Lawauna Dickes and Harriet Sommervell. Contestants had to be at least 5'4" tall. Thirteen girls show a little leg during a competition in the Lincoln High School gymnasium on February 21 1941. They are competing in the "Poise, Posture and Personality" contest. The top ten contestants will also be awarded "model" roles in the school's upcoming original musical comedy "Of Men and Models," to be presented in May at the school. Fifty-four girls tryout for parts in the Lincoln High School opera "Of Men and Models," an original musical comedy directed by student LeRoy (Lee) Hale. The top ten contestants in the pictured "Poise, Posture and Personality" contest on February 21, 1941 will be chosen to play models in the production. Lincoln students wrote the music and lyrics for 21 original songs. The show premiered in Tacoma on May 8, 9 and 10. Hale became music director for "The Dean Martin Show" during its television run from 1965-74. (Lincolnian, 1941, pp. 25, 83).

Lincoln High School drill team Marcetta-Ki for the 1960 yearbook "Lincolnian." Marcetta Ki was Lincoln's marching team. They performed at half times during home games and marched in 3 parades in 1960, one of which was Tacoma's Daffodil Parade. Girls with good posture, average grades, a nice personality and good figure were chosen to be members of the club. ( "1960 Lincolnian")
