On Thursday October 9, 1947, the Tacoma Charter of Building Laborers and Hod Carriers honored three members with honorary life membership at a dinner in their union hall. D. L. McInnis became a member in 1916; Joe Collins in 1917; and Dan Avery , a member of the local in Denver, CO in 1888, helped establish the Tacoma chapter when he moved to Tacoma in 1905 and was present when it received its charter in 1911. Mayor C. Val Fawcett studies a pre-publication copy of the September, 1947 issue of Holiday Magazine in his office in Tacoma's (Old) City Hall in August of 1947. Tacoma received three pages, including 5 photographs, in the 36 page section of the issue devoted to Washington State. The long article, written by northwest author Nard Jones, included over 90 photographs of scenic views, Washington industries and her people. Tacoma's Community Chest Parade officially kicked off the 1947 fund raising campaign. Thousands of people gathered on Pacific Avenue to enjoy one of the most colorful parades in Tacoma history. Tacoma businesses, organizations and community members gathered together in the hopes of making it a successful campaign. Ingleside Cafe, Ponders Station, Ft. Lewis Highway. A large billboard for Olympia Beer shows over the roof of the cafe. Automobiles are parked outside the cafe which has a large awning over the windows on the parking lot side. The neon sign near the front door advertises fountain service. Additional neon signs placed over the roof dormers spell, "E-A-T". The Ingleside Cafe opened at this location in 1940. TPL-2535

Forseth, is holding since the suitcase is already too full to handle everything that's already in it. Shirley Ruman's father, Frank A. Ruman, had been in Africa on business and she arranged to meet him in Paris before he headed to another part of the world. She would spend ten days in New York City before flying to Paris. She carries a handbag and wears gold toned bracelet, necklace and earrings. A fur stole hangs over a chair next to her. Miss Saxton is listed as a student in the 1947 Tacoma City Directory. She was the daughter of Malcolm and Winifred Saxton. Mr. Saxton was president of Saxton's Inc at 6030 South Tacoma Way. Lou Johnson had two women's clothing stores in Tacoma at this time; one at 755 Broadway and the Little Shop at 16 No. Tacoma Avenue.

Many of the items on the display counter are shaped like animals, birds, shells, leaves and flowers. One is shaped like a violin and another is in a cornucopia shape. Saxton's had been a lumber and millwork manufacturing company but was now known for hardware, furniture and home furnishings.

Model Saree Scott is wearing the portion of the Harry Winston collection of jewelry that was on display in Tacoma's Wisefield & Goldberg's store, 925 Broadway, for three days in September of 1947. The collection included the fabulous "Spellbound" clip, another 88 carat round and baguette diamond clip valued at $100,000, a necklace of round and baguette diamonds valued at $100,000 together with earrings, rings, and bracelets. Daniel Bennett, vice-president of Harry Winston, Inc., traveled with the collection from New York City. The "Spellbound" clip was the largest single piece of diamond jewelry made in the United States up to that time. With his books slung over his shoulder on a leather strap, Eddie Stein, age 6, patted his brown & white spaniel Flicka on the head, said goodbye to his mother and headed off for his first day of school. Tacoma's Junior League was busy planning their "Follies" show, scheduled for mid November at the Temple Theatre. Well known Tacoma artist, Peggy Strong, had designed the cover for the event's program. The show would include a variety of performances, which were sure to entertain their guests.
