A large contingent of Master Builders met at the Top of the Ocean restaurant on November 29, 1950. The group was composed of local contractors and others in the building industry who were proud of their craftsmanship. They had their association headquarters at 1103 1/2 Division Ave.

The Tacoma Master Builders combined the installation of their 1951 officers and their Christmas Party for 1950 at the New Yorker Cafe. Ten men and their wives are seated or standing behind the head table. Mel Pedersen, retiring president of the organization, is seated behind the podium. Rex N. Twelve women volunteers at the American Red Cross are wrapping bandages on December 19, 1950. They are among the group of Tacoma Red Cross volunteer workers who had made more than 350,000 surgical dressings for use at Madigan Army Hospital using material furnished by the Army. Elizabeth Kordich, George Cuculich and George and Geraldine Franko make plans for the third annual spaghetti dinner dance of the Tacoma Actives of the English Speaking Lodge Saturday evening February 24, 1951. The dinner featuring the Italian dish was held at the American Legion Hall on So. G St. with dinner served 6-8 p.m., followed by dancing from 9 p.m. to 12 midnight. Bellarmine boys, members of the Junior Red Cross, gather to deliver posters for the American Red Cross. The boys delivered posters and other advertising material for the 3/1/1951 national fund raising campaign kick off. The 1951 Red Cross poster, painted by Norman Rockwell and gifted to the Red Cross, featured Tacoma native Coe Norton holding a first aid kit. Seven members of the Young Mens Business Club Auxiliary posed for a photograph to promote the "Spring Enchantress" fashion and beauty show in March 1951. The fashion show was presented at a luncheon held on April 5, 1951 at The Tropics, 735 Commerce. The show included a hair stylist who demonstrated new styles of hair dressing, with emphasis on pleated and folded styles, on models adorned in evening gowns, jewels, flowers and perfume. A multi-purpose room has been provided in "The Northwesterner" by using a day bed against an outer wall. The opposite wall provided built-in closets and cabinets. A patterned rug has been placed on the hardwood floors. An easy chair stands across the room under another window. A conversation area has been created off the main part of the living room in "The Northwesterner". Two side chairs and a sofa have been arranged around a coffee table. Another view of the kitchen in "The Northwesterner". The linear lines of the open beams are emphasized by the cupboards and appliances lining both long walls of the kitchen. The wooden door at the far end of the kitchen mimics the lines of the room. The diagonal pattern of the floor covering provides a break in the repetition of the linear pattern. TPL-7638

The living room in "The Northwesterner" shows the use of an open floor plan. The kitchen can be seen through the opening on the left. The open beam ceiling and far wall have been painted a light color and the interior walls around the kitchen are painted much darker. Modern styling can be seen in the light fixtures, the dining furniture against the wall below a mirror with no molding. A large television is angled across the far corner. A patterned rug has been placed on the hardwood floors. TPL-7641

The bathroom in "The Northwesterner" makes use of space economically. A tub with shower is fitted in on the left next to the toilet. A sink with a small counter also provides storage space below and a drawer on the right. A goose-neck lamp provides lighting over the sink as well as a window covered with patterned glass for privacy. Tile has been used on the floor and the walls. TPL-7643

A small bedroom in "The Northwesterner" provides a wall of storage with closets, drawers and covered cubby holes above. The exterior and interior of the closets and cabinets are painted a light color and the two adjacent walls are painted a dark color. A single bed is set against the wall with windows covered with short, boldly patterned drapes. An easy chair sits against the near wall. TPL-7639

New officers were installed by the Lincoln Lions Club at a dinner-dance at the Chateau. Wendall Kinney was master of ceremonies. The new officers are, L-R, standing: Robert D. Sizer, secretary; Dr. Charles E. Newschwander, past president; Cecil H. Beebe, board member, and Dr. Harold A. Dabroe, treasurer. Seated, Charles D. McCoy, president and Michael J. These women are forty of the 170 housewives who completed Red Cross certificates in home nursing to be able to care for the sick in their own homes as part of defense in emergency. Names are listed in the newspaper. The American Red Cross was also 70 years old in May 1951. They reported that $1,000,000,000 had been spent at home and overseas in the 50 years since its first report to Congress.
