ca. 1926. A V-shaped driveway leading to "Rhodesleigh", the Henry A. and Birdella Rhodes Estate on Lake Steilacoom, Interlaaken. Heath, Gove and Bell, Architects, 1921. Glimpse of mansion through the trees. The site was originally the location of a 1908 lakefront summer cottage owned by the Rhodes family. The larger home was built in 1921 as a family tribute to son Edward B. Rhodes, who was killed in World War I. It is on the National Registry. The home is still a private residence. A few Spinster Club members and guests pose at the club's annual Dixie Ball held in the Greenwood Manor on May 2, 1953. The ladies are dressed in long evening gowns while the men have traditional suits and ties. Magnolia blossoms, cotton trees and rustic dolls were used as decorations for the gala event. The Club of Hearts held their annual informal "cotton and cords" dance at Greenwood Manor, 10815 Greendale Drive S.W. in Lakewood, on August 4, 1951. Swimming and dancing began at 8:30 p.m. and continued to 12:30. Swimming was in Steilacoom Lake and dancing was in the old fashioned ballroom at Greenwood Manor. Some of the evening's music was probably provided by the jukebox next to the ballroom fireplace (far right). Ordered by Barbara Schauer. (TNT, 8/4/1951, p.10)
