ca. 1979. The neon flying eagle identifies the home of the F.O.E. (Fraternal Order of Eagles,) Tacoma Aerie #3, 1305-07 Fawcett Ave., circa 1979. The structure was built in 1908 and the roof collapsed in 2007, prompting its demolition.

ca. 1937. Townsend Club meeting at the Eagles Hall. Capacity crowd of older citizens seated in meeting hall. The building's elaborate balcony is visible in the background. In 1933, Dr. Francis E. Townsend proposed a government sponsored old age pension plan for every American over 60. Seniors suffered greatly during the Depression with their savings wiped out and no employment available. Townsend Clubs popped up all over the country to support his Plan. Although never adopted in its entirety, it is the ancestor of today's Social Security. (T. Times).

A string orchestra of young people attired in white with leis around their necks sat on the ground floor while an orchestra of various instruments played on the stage at the Eagles Hall, 1305-07 Fawcett Ave. The goup is under the direction of Alexander S. Melovidoff, in front with his back to the camera.

Before a crowd of numerous friends and hundreds of spectators, Louise Shugars and James Ross, in center, became man and wife at a public ceremony held January 7, 1943 at the Eagles Hall. Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Polley served as best man and maid of honor during the ceremony performed by Judge W. A. Richmond. Both the bride and groom were active in labor circles. Mr. Ross was the business agent for the Engineers' local #606 and Mrs. Ross was active in the Cooks and Waiters local #61. James Ross was the brother of Police Chief Tom Ross. In December, 1953 four officers of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Tacoma Aerie #3, put the finishing touches on the enormous tree that was to be the center of attention at the Eagle's annual Christmas party for children. The tree stands on a corner of the stage at the Eagle Temple at 1305-07 Fawcett Ave. Watching from the foot of the stage are (l to r) Bob West, secretary, and Frank M. Kellogg, president. On the ladder, from the bottom up, are Maurice Hume, inside guard; Frank J. Charleston, Christmas committee chairman; and Joseph Thornley and Earl Butcher, Trustees. (TNT 12/17/1953, pg. A-13)

ca. 1950. Interior photograph of club. It is five minutes to one and the dance floor is empty. The piano, drums and jukebox are silent at the Tacoma Aerie No. 3 chapter of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. The grand opening of new club rooms at 13th and Fawcett Avenue was on October 4, 1940. Barely a year later, the Eagles celebrated the opening of the club's completely remodeled lounge and basement quarters. It was necessary to have additional space due to the large increase of members who would be able to enjoy the new furnishings and modernistic furniture.
