On March 7, 1968, three men in technician coats operated large pieces of machinery at Precision Machine Works, 2101 Pacific Ave. The company had moved to larger quarters across the alley from its older building in the fall of 1965. The local Tacoma company was founded in 1925 by Ed Gazeki to build machine products needed by the timber industry. In the 1940's, they branched out to include products needed by the shipyards. In 1955, they turned their resources to machining products for the aerospace industry and made Boeing one of their largest customers. "Ed," an employee of Precision Machine Works, observes the three drills of a piece of machinery at work on April 5, 1966. The area surrounding the machine is filled with shredded pieces of woodchip-like material. Precision Machine Works had moved to a new 11,000 square foot building at 2101 Pacific Ave. in September, 1965. Precision Machine Works, Inc. A piece of machinery appears to be in the process of being tested at Precision Machine Works, 2101 Pacific Avenue, on September 14, 1965. A technician in lab coat prods the machine which is sprewing out shredded bits of wood-like chips. Precision Machine manufactured precision parts, many from aluminum forgings, for the aerospace industry customers like Boeing. They were once known for manufacturing machine tools for the woodworking industry. 65 people were employed at the firm run by president and chief engineer E.J. Gazecki with a $400,000 annual payroll. Exterior of Precision Machine Works, 2101 Pacific Ave. This 11,000 square foot building doubled the floor space found in the firm's older building across the alley. A roof extension joined the new building to the old. The new building was designed by H.V. Krewson & Associates and built by Fisher Construction. It featured concrete block, glue-laminated beams and steel posts. Precision Machine manufactured precision parts for the aerospace industry. At the time of this January, 1966, photograph, Precision Machine was advertising for new machinists to join their company. A neatly lettered sign inviting qualified machinists to apply was posted on the building's exterior, above the designated parking spaces for company officials. (TNT 7-18-65, B-7)
