John Mason and family including: (l to r, standing) Robert Mason, and Lyde Wilson Wray; (l to r, sitting) woman believed to be Robert Mason's wife, John Paul Mason, Virginia (Mrs. John Quincy) Mason, Anita Noel Mason (with Ted Mason on her lap), and John Quincy Mason. Anita Noel Mason was the wife of Thomas Mason, who is not pictured. This family portrait was taken circa 1906. Mrs. John Quincy Mason had designed this Colonial home which was built in 1905. Conductor Eugene Linden's grandmother and sister visit Tacoma to attend a Philharmonic concert. Pictured, left to right, are Mrs. David Medill of Portland, sister, Clara (Mrs. Charles W.) Mason, President Philharmonic Board, and Mrs. Margaret Linden of San Francisco. Mrs. Linden is 83 and the mother of 7 professional musicians. Linden, conductor and founder of the Tacoma Philharmonic, descended from 12 generations of musicians. He played the flute and at times supported himself by giving lessons. One of his ancestors had taught the flute to Frederick the Great of Prussia. Linden wore a ruby ring that was a gift of the monarch to his ancestor in 1742. (TNT 2/28/1934; TDL 3/5/1937; photo T. The Tacoma Athletic Commission dance committee sips tea and discusses upcoming plans for the 5th annual TAC Birthday Celebration to be held 2/19/1951. The committee is meeting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard R. Smith, co-chairmen. Pictured (left to right) are Mrs. Edwin Johnson, Jeanette B. (Mrs. William I.) Shaw, Ruth M. (Mrs. J. Robert) Brooke, Edith V. (Mrs. Harold) Tollefson, and Ethyl (Mrs. Howard R.) Smith. The party was planned to start with 6:30 p.m. cocktail service in the TAC lounge on the upper deck of the Top of the Ocean, followed by a buffet dinner at 7:30 p.m., and a vaudeville show and dancing to top off the evening from 9 p.m. to midnight. Also included was the presentation of the "Sportsman of the Year" award to Jim McCarthy, Clover Park High School student and National Junior Medal Play Golf Champion the previous summer.
