A nurse sits in a chair by the podium. The school provided a three year course of study to qualify students as registered nurses. The school was organized in 1895 and graduated their first class in 1897. In 1947, the hospital erected a new building for its school.

Tacoma General conducted its own nursing school from 1895 till 1980. This room was probably used as a lecture area for that school. In 1947, the school erected a new building, Jackson Hall.

This is believed to be one of the training areas for the Nursing school at the Tacoma General Hospital. The school had just completed a new building dedicated to the school.

Llewellyn Advertising Agency. Tacoma General Hospital. These two women, Mrs. Bessie Miln Hamilton of Vancouver, B.C., and Mrs. Maude Matthews Ellegood of Pacific Grove, California, were honored guests at the dedication of Jackson Hall, the new nurses home of Tacoma General Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Hamilton and Mrs. Ellegood were the last living members of the first graduating class of the School of Nursing 50 years ago in 1897. This school was the first of its kind established in the State of Washington. (TNT, 5/28/1947)
