Mrs. Robert E. Hunt, winner of Tacoma contest for Mrs. Typical American Consumer and her family at home on September 24, 1941. The Hunts resided at 3612 North 27th St. Mrs. Hunt received a $25 Defense Bond for her winning essay, "What the Retail Stores of Tacoma Can Do to Aid the Consumer in this Period of National Emergency." She qualified to compete in the national contest for a trip to New York City where the winner would be chosen as "Mrs. Typical Consumer of the United States." Mr. Hunt, shown with 2 1/2 year old Woodard on his lap, was a foreman at the Port of Tacoma. Both he and Mrs. Hunt were also active in pre-USO activities for servicemen.
