Mature trees and shrubs enhanced the beauty of this two-story home atop Prospect Hill in 1958. The home belonged to Miss Helen Long and was built for George S. Long, Sr., in 1906 by C.E. Heath with designs by architect G.W. Bullard. Mr. Long was Weyerhaeuser's first general manager and remained so for 30 years. Mr. Long was a visionary, promoting sustainable forestry. 45 Summit Road was the residence of Helen Long, daughter of George S. Long, first general manager of the Weyerhaeuser Corporation. Located in the city's north end on Prospect Hill, the two story home overlooked Commencement Bay. It had been built in 1906 and had previously been nominated as one of Tacoma's most beautiful homes.

Almost hidden from view by enormous trees was the two-story home of Helen Long. Miss Long resided at 45 Summit Road on Prospect Hill in the city's north end. Her beautifully landscaped yard overlooked Commencement Bay. The home was built for George S. Long, Weyerhaeuser's first general manager, in 1906 using designs by architect G.W. Bullard. It was nominated in 1920 as one of the most beautiful homes in the city. Apparently the home was used as an observation post during World War II. Photograph ordered by Helen Long.

A photograph of Margaret R. Long's living room was ordered for Christmas cards. Her warm and inviting room has a fire lit in the fireplace with two wreaths hung over the mantle. A Christmas tree stands in the corner by two windows. A oriental rug covers the floor and a sofa and easy chairs are placed around the room. A portrait of a woman also hangs over the firelplace. Margaret R. Long was a civic leader in Tacoma and lived here for 66 years. She was the daughter of George S. Long, manager of Weyerhaeuser. She died March 12, 1966, at age 74.
