In June of 1945, Hal Schimling, fresh out of the service in the Pacific, took the train from Tacoma east to join the St. Louis Browns. Hal, who had grown up in the Puyallup area, had been a catcher with the Tacoma Tigers before the war. He was to workout for several weeks with the Browns and then travel to Toledo to report to their farm team - the Toledo Mud Hens. (T.Times, 6/20/1945, p.11) TPL-8673

ca. 1946. Photographs from the Turner Richards Studio with employees and family members. Three men and two women are photographed taking a coffee break in the back room of the studio. The two men on the right are Nelson and Ed Richards, two of four active owners of the studio. The woman seated has been identified as Velda Inez (Vink) Richards, the wife of Nelson Richards. According to her April 11, 2012 obituary, Velda Richards became an accomplished portrait and wedding photographer and in 1959, manager of the Richard's Villa Plaza Portrait Studio. Mrs. Richards was predeceased by husband Nelson in 1980 and only child Steven in 1986. She passed away on March 27, 2012 in Portland. Studio picture of Milton Gaetz for Puget Sound Auto Electric. Milton Gaetz was the President and General Manager of Puget Sound Auto Electric Co. The company offered automobile radio installations, repairs, engine tune-ups, carburetor repairs, and electrical servicing. They are said to have been a "progressive and fast growing firm".

Clara Thompson was a member of Delta Alpha Gamma Sorority at College of Puget Sound. She was a candidate for the football homecoming queen. The game was scheduled for Saturday, where she would be named as the 1947 homecoming queen or one of the queen's attendants. Portrait of Clara was taken at the Richards Studio.

Self caricature drawn by Fritz Zillig. Fritz Zillig, a local Tacoma artist, will open the Tacoma Art League's lecture season with a talk on "The Significance of Caricature". This year's chairman is Carolyn Schneider, who is also the Director of College of Puget Sound's Anderson Hall (T. Times, 10/11/47, p. 5).

Twin sons of Julia Lee MacDonald, Tacoma Times Society Editor. Donald (left) and Bruce MacDonald, 22 years old, have just returned from the famous Portillo Resort in Chile, where they spent their time skiing and where they learned a new ski technique. Last year they traveled to France and attended the French National Ski School. The boys first started skiing in Tacoma, while they were students at Lincoln High School. Next week they will be taking a trip to Sun Valley (T. Times, 12/4/47, p. 2).

Julia Lee MacDonald was the Tacoma Times Society pages Editor-in-Chief, she had twin sons and was a widow. The Tacoma Times Society pages handled news, arts, events and pictures of women's activities. The newspaper stated, "More Women's News - More Fashions - More Pictures - More Food News in your Tacoma Times" They were known as "Tacoma's Fastest Growing Progressive Newspaper" (T. Times, 1/17/48, p. 1).

June Catherine Johnson, poet and writer, was visiting Tacoma, promoting her newest book, "12 Books of Verse and 200 Songs." June Catherine Johnson has also written two autobiographical volumes of poems, "Child of the Desert" and "Life's Golden Echoe." Johnson was born in Texas and has lived in Walla Walla, Washington, she is currently living in a secluded area: "Star Dust" cabin retreat, 10 miles from Medford, Oregon. Johnson began writing when she was confined to her bed for eight years, after her school bus was hit by on oncoming train. June Catherine is currently staying with friends in Tacoma (T. Times, 5/8/48, p. 5).

View of M. W. "Wesley" Goss holding Cammarano Brothers Trophy, the trophy will be awarded to the winner of the "Free-for-All Outboard Race" on Sunday at Gig Harbor. This race is part of the two day Washington State Championships, participants will go through a one mile course.
