On November 8, 1940, the freshmen presented Booth Tarkington's comedy "The Travelers" before a student assembly. The cast included Art Sheets, Ruth Hanawalt, Roberta Humble, Ed Ercegovic, George Victor, Dorothea Federico, Bob Albertson, Gordon Soder, Everett Lowther, Patricia Hanson and Frank Hicks. Ground breaking ceremonies at C.P.S. for new Student Union Building on October 16, 1940. Crowd of mostly students watching digging contest. Trustee Norton Clapp won the shoveling contest with Student Body President Lyle Jamieson coming in second. Nineteen years later in 1959, another new Student Union Building would be constructed.

The person in the front row, far left is listed in the 1941 yearbook as Hoheim. This is incorrect.

College of Puget Sound was celebrating their 1947 homecoming with four days filled with activities and performances. Their main event for homecoming was a minstrel show, which would feature students, alumni and faculty in blackface performing "Gentlemen, Be Seated". There would be two performances, the first one was only for students, the second show would be for alumni and open to the public. In October of 1947, College of Puget Sound students, alumni and faculty participated in four days of festivities including two performances of an oldtime minstrel show, "Gentlemen, Be Seated," in blackface at Jones Hall. The show was directed by John O'Connor, a professor at CPS. The highlight of the show was a rendition of "Lo, Hear the Gentle Lark." Music for the show was played by the "Cottonpickers," a 35- piece orchestra under the direction of O'Connor (T. Times, 10/21/47, p. 5).

College of Puget Sound art instructors, Lynn Wentworth and Frances Chubb were presented with roses at the new art studio party, they were essential in making the new studio a success. Student art work was displayed at the official opening of the studio. The completion of the new art studio was celebrated with a tea at a "studio-warming" gathering on December 8, 1947. College of Puget Sound had an increase of enrollment for many years after the end of World War II. In order to better accommodate their students, CPS purchased U.S. Army surplus buildings, which they renovated and christened as "South Hall". These buildings would be used as classrooms, exterior view of "South Hall" (Tamanawas, 1948).

Todd Hall, College of Puget Sound's men's dormitory, was named after Dr. Edward H. Todd, in honor of his many years of service to the school. College of Puget Sound had many new additions in mind for the future, hoping to make CPS one of the nicest and most modern liberal arts colleges in the Northwest. Tacoma Symphony Orchestra was formed under the direction of Raymond Vaught at the College of Puget Sound. The orchestra was getting ready for their first concert of the 1947 season, which would be held at Jones Hall. The concert would include Fresca-Baldi, Schubert, Strauss and Ostransky pieces. CPS. Students at the College of Puget Sound are determined to win the many valuable awards in the Tacoma T-Man contest. One young man is wearing a gas mask. Two hold rifles and the last one holds a revolver in his hand and a pipe in his teeth. They have scoured the campus in hopes of locating the elusive subject. The 7th jingle clue was, "For he is sound as sound can be, A saint in two he is, not three. All will vouch and praise his name, and then go on to win the game". "T-Men", an Edward Small production released by Eagle Lion Films, was opening at the Rialto Theater. The film starred Dennis O'Keefe and was based on a compilation of three actual cases of US Treasury Department agents going under cover to track down a counterfeiting ring. R. Franklin Thompson, President of College of Puget Sound, is wearing a baseball mitt and standing on the C.P.S. baseball field. Thompson had a Bachelor of Divinity (B.D.), Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and a Bachelor of Laws (L.L.B.), he had been the President at C.P.S. for many years. President Thompson liked to get involved in many of the College activities (Tamanawas, 1947).

Tacoma Chamber of Commerce, new men's dorm under construction. The brick work on the College of Puget Sound was started June 2, 1947, by the MacDonald Building Company June 2, 1947. The building was named after Dr. Edward H. Todd, president of the college 29 years, from 1913 to 1942. (T.Times, 5/28/1947, p.7)

College of Puget Sound was first established by the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1888 as the Puget Sound University, the school is no longer affiliated with the Methodist Church. Student enrollment had increased and the school was also participating in the post war boom and development. New buildings were built and student activities and celebrations were at an all time high. College of Puget Sound students were helping place nine brass plaques bearing the name of one of the fraternities and sororities, which have been active for the past twenty five years. The plaques are being placed by the Student Union Building. The students and college administrators participated in a special dedication just prior to the cement being poured. College of Puget Sound 1951 graduating class. 285 graduates received degrees June 3, 1951, during the ceremony in the field house. Dr. R. Franklin Thompson, president of the college conferred the degrees. Dr. Robert E. Burns spoke to the granduates on "World Unity, But How?".
