Nearly 40 local Boy Scouts and scout masters helped the 1947 Community Chest campaign by posting pole cards along Tacoma streets to keep Tacoma citizens aware of the upcoming campaign. Here Russell Matthews, Lucien Gumm, Bob Wright and Scoutmasters S/Sgt. L.J. Keehley and Lt. J.A. Kruavica from Troop 102, McChord Field, put up placards in South Tacoma. In September of 1947 Tacoma boy scouts Bob Evans (left) and LeRoy Gruver returned from the World Jamboree which was held that year near Paris, France. The two scouts were greeted with a three-way handshake by their unidentified scout master as they disembark from their train at Union depot. The purpose of the follies for 1947 was to raise funds for the Tacoma Occupational Therapy Workshop. It had been twenty years since the Tacoma Junior League had put on a follies. International Gyro Club members at Point Defiance park. Howard Crothers, Gyro Club. The Northwest District of Gyro International opened their annual four-day convention in Seattle August 14, 1947. The international convention came to Tacoma for one day of their four-day convention from Seattle on August 15, 1947. The Gyro Club delegates arrived in Tacoma by boat, toured Point Defiance Five Mile Drive, enjoyed a water carnival staged at Point Defiance pavilion and had salmon dinner before returning to Seattle. For the second November in a row, the Tahoma Guild of the Tacoma Orthopedic Association in 1947 set out "Wishing Candles" in many restaurants as a fund raiser for a much needed children's hospital in Tacoma. Bartenders at the Wild West Veteran's Club in Nov. 1947. The club was affiliated with VFW Wild West Post No. 91. It was located in the Crawford's Sea Grill Restaurant Building at 505 Broadway. Wild West Veteran's Club was affiliated with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Wild West Post Number 91. The club was only listed in the 1947 Tacoma City Directory at this location, in the 1949 Tacoma City Directory the club is listed as being located at 260 South 5th Street. Wild West Veteran's Club was operated by the Wild West Home Corporation. John Taylor was President, Fred Brining was Vice President and Oscar J. Olson was Secretary Treasurer of the Wild West Home Corporation, which was also located at the same site. The Wild West Taxi Company was also based out of Crawford's Restaurant. Wild West Club was located in Crawford's Sea Grill Restaurant, a two story concrete blocks and glass, 275 person capacity building. Crawford's became very popular with Tacoma residents and tourists, especially after they added a unique terrace room in 1950. Group of Camp Fire Girls meet at Mason Methodist Church. The Camp Fire Girls honored local leaders at the Fire Maker Tea at the Mason Methodist Church on January 24, 1948. They honored two Tacoma women who had made contributions to the community: Mrs. Charles Mason who brought points of opera interest to the girls and Pansy D. (Mrs. W.W.) Over 400 members and guests were expected for the Rudder Club's Valentine Party held on February 10, 1948. Tacoma Art League was presenting the work of Colonel C. Ross Greening at the Washington State Historical Building. Colonel Greening painted his graphic paintings while in a German Prison Camp. Colonel Greening was the inventor of the "10 Cent Bomb Site", this technique was used by Colonel James Doolittle in his Tokyo raid. View of Colonel C. The Y-Teen Club of the Tacoma YWCA sponsored a dance for Tacoma teens on February 7, 1948 at the South Tacoma Community Center, 4851 South Tacoma Way, to raise funds for the Y-Teen Conference that was scheduled for February 20-22 in Bellingham. The Tacoma Girl Scouts held a Fashion Revue at the Temple Theater on March 20, 1948. The proceeds would benefit the St. Alban's Girl Scout Camp. The Girl Scouts showed traditional and new scouting clothes as well as sports outfits and fashion clothes furnished by Rhodes Brothers Department Store. Background music was provided by Arnold Levenenze at the organ. Four young girls and boys wearing their Sunday best and two teenage girls wearing two-piece bathing suits wait in the sidelines, with four women organizers, for their turn on the runway.
