Standard Oil Company. A view of Clarkson's Chevron Station at night. An automobile is seen in the service area on a hoist. The station advertises Atlas Batteries, Chevron Supreme Gasoline, and lubrication and washing services. A large Coca-Cola cooler sits outside the garage doors. It was apparently the first Chevron station built in Washington State after WWII. The station eventually closed after the I-5 freeway was completed; it was reopened in 1961 as Gene's Richfield Service. July 3, 1947, saw the opening of Cliff Anderson's new Chevron gas station in Spanaway. The station had two gas pumps and a one-bay compartment for vehicle maintenance and repair. Its address was not provided. (scan of original negative, no print on file)

Standard Oil Co. started doing business in Western Washington in 1886. They were shipping oil from Cleveland, Ohio to Tacoma in box and tank railroad cars. They have consistently grown and expanded and have new offices in the Tacoma Tideflats area. View of new Standard Oil service station located at 9212 South Tacoma Way. It was purchased by Gene L. Myers in 1961 and is still owned by him in 2003. The business is now Gene's Towing.

In 1945, Daley's Garage occupied part of the ground floor of 1411-17 Pacific Ave, the home of the Schoenfeld annex and Bargain Loft. Schoenfelds had expanded into this site around 1940. Daley's Garage, owned by John J and John M Daley, offered the consumer a place to park and also gas up. The actual street address for the garage was 1415 Pacific Ave.

Washburn's Service Station, 3402 Pacific Ave. The mission style station was built in 1924 by William F. Washburn. Mr. Washburn and his wife Genevieve lived nearby at 224 So. 34th, which they purchased around 1920.

The Standard Oil gas station located at the Camp Tahoma Auto Camp cabins, 3836 South Tacoma Way. Located next to the cabins was Interstate Motor Sales at 3826 South Tacoma Way. The sign in the background over the auto sale building is for Ace Furnace and Steel at 3740 So. Union.

Camp Tahoma's cabins, owned by Frank and B.J. Winkes, offered the driving public an alternative to staying in a hotel. The auto camp was demolished around 1966 to make way for Gill Lincoln Mercury.

The MJM Service station, 6647 South Tacoma Way; photographed in September of 1945. The station was owned by Earl M. Morrison, William J. Joyce and Fay O. Morrison and built in 1924. There are two covered areas. Several automobiles are parked in the rear of the station. Two gasoline pumps are available at the front of the service station. The station was located next to the C.H. McNeil Candy Shop at 6643 South Tacoma Way.
