The MJM Service station, 6647 South Tacoma Way; photographed in September of 1945. The station was owned by Earl M. Morrison, William J. Joyce and Fay O. Morrison and built in 1924. There are two covered areas. Several automobiles are parked in the rear of the station. Two gasoline pumps are available at the front of the service station. The station was located next to the C.H. McNeil Candy Shop at 6643 South Tacoma Way.

Roy A. Vaughan's Standard Service Station and the Bungalow Cabin Camp at Pacific Avenue and Sales Road. Roy Vaughan and his wife Thelma owned, operated and lived at this site. It included an automobile service and repair shop, and an automobile travel court with cabins.

The Standard Oil gas station located at the Camp Tahoma Auto Camp cabins, 3836 South Tacoma Way. Camp Tahoma, owned by Frank and B.J. Winkes, offered the driving public an alternative to staying in a hotel. The auto camp was demolished around 1966 to make way for Gill Lincoln Mercury.

Washburn's Service Station, 3402 Pacific Ave. The mission style station was built in 1924 by William F. Washburn. Mr. Washburn and his wife Genevieve lived nearby at 224 So. 34th, which they purchased around 1920.

Buck & Sons was owned and operated by Parker J. Buck. They were remodeling this building, which would house their business. Standard Oil Co. started doing business in Western Washington in 1886. They were shipping oil from Cleveland, Ohio to Tacoma in box and tank railroad cars. They have consistently grown and expanded and have new offices in the Tacoma Tideflats area. View of new Standard Oil service station located at 9212 South Tacoma Way. It was purchased by Gene L. Myers in 1961 and is still owned by him in 2003. The business is now Gene's Towing.

July 3, 1947, saw the opening of Cliff Anderson's new Chevron gas station in Spanaway. The station had two gas pumps and a one-bay compartment for vehicle maintenance and repair. Its address was not provided. (scan of original negative, no print on file)

Standard Oil Company. A view of Clarkson's Chevron Station at night. An automobile is seen in the service area on a hoist. The station advertises Atlas Batteries, Chevron Supreme Gasoline, and lubrication and washing services. A large Coca-Cola cooler sits outside the garage doors. It was apparently the first Chevron station built in Washington State after WWII. The station eventually closed after the I-5 freeway was completed; it was reopened in 1961 as Gene's Richfield Service. New Shell Oil Company station, Shell Oil Company, Mr. Rutledge. A night-time view of the exterior of the new Brazeau's Shell Service Station at 6th and Fife Streets. The station has two pumps at the island in front and two automobiles are in the bays, one up on a rack. One of the attendants is looking out at the street and another is checking the front tire of one of the automobiles.

A daytime view of the new service station was taken on April 29, 1948 from street level showing the two garage doors open, banners flying and the two gasoline pumps with "Shell" signs, shaped like shells, on top. At night the Shell signs were lit.

There are two service attendants at the drivers' side windows asking how they can be of service. In these days a fill-up of gasoline included a free window washing, oil check and possibly a check of water in the cooling system.

New Shell Station at 6th and Mason, Shell Oil Co., Mr. Holm. This customer of the new Shell service station is definitely King with at least nine service attendants servicing his car. They are polishing his windshield, cleaning the headlights, cleaning out the back seat and pumping the gas. The attendants wear matching uniforms with dark jackets, light pants and white caps. The most service you would usually receive would be up to two attendants: possibly one to wash the windshield while the other pumped the gasoline.
