Four women from the Circle B First Presbyterian Planning Committee pose at the home of Mrs. Lincoln (Lulu) Gault on February 12, 1938. They are planning a large collectors and antique exhibit scheduled for the following Friday in the Stone Hall of the Church. Altar at St. Patrick's Church decorated for Holy Week. The repository for Thursday of Holy Week, shown in the photograph, is prepared apart from the principal altar and hung with precious tapestry and adorned with flowers and candles. The Urn with the blessed sacrament is in the center of the altar and locked with key and lock. (T. Times, 4/16/1938, p. 6).

The 1938 softball team at Holy Rosary School, 502 So. 30th St., won the city parochial school championship for the second consecutive year. They won 10 of their 12 scheduled games. To get to the top, they defeated St. Leo's 2 times, Visitation 3 times, Sacred Heart 2 times and St. Patricks 3 times. Messiah Lutheran Church Junior choir. Thirty youngsters were photographed wearing robes in church. The choir performed under the direction of Margaret Rorem. Easter Sunday at various Tacoma churches. Worshipers gather on the steps of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 602 South 34th St, on Easter Sunday, April 9, 1939. St. Joseph's was built by its congregation members and dedicated in May of 1912. It was the first Slovak Catholic church built in the Northwest.

On a sunny Easter Sunday in 1939, three boys struggled with a potted lilly in front of the Central Baptist Church at 1201 So. J St. The boys were, left to right, solemn Gerald Larson, Gene Johnson balancing the plant and a huge grin and Peter Larson. A female parishioner, with corsage, watched from the background. The Gothic wooden church in the background was built in 1900 as the First Swedish Baptist Church. In 2005, it was named to the Tacoma Registry of Historic Places and is currently being restored. (T. Easter Sunday, April 9th 1939, at the Luther Memorial Church. Women and children dressed in Easter outfits, some with corsages, standing on church steps. The women on the left have been identified by a family member as (left to right) Grace Lundberg, Garnet Torgeson and their mother Lydia Torgeson. Luther Memorial had its last service after 112 years on November 9th, 2003.

The Lakewood community was growing rapidly in 1938 when the area's first church was dedicated. Contractors converted an abandoned old grocery store into The Little Church on the Prairie by adding a steeple, new windows and doors, and remodled interior. The white picket fence surrounding the church enhanced the Colonial architectural style that was evolving in Lakewood.
