Paying little heed to the lovely campus beyond the large view windows, these Pacific Lutheran University students are hard at work on January 16, 1963, studying at the school library. Long tables provided plenty of room for students to spread out their books and other materials.

This smiling group of Pacific Lutheran University students show the happiness of the annual May Festival. Under the direction of Mrs. Rhoda Young, a whole year of dedicated practice would culminate in the May, 1963, two-night performance of the folk dance festival. Longtime president of the College of Puget Sound, Dr. Edward H. Todd and his wife Florence pose for a March, 1936, photograph in front of packed bookcases located in their No. Alder Street home. Dr. Todd, a minister and scholar, became president in 1913. He succeeded in a campaign that raised one million dollars and laid the grounds for the school's permanent home at No. 15th & Warner. First meal in new womens' residence hall, College of Puget Sound. Nine of 40 women to live in new quarters gather at table with Carolyn Schneider, housemother, and Dr. and Mrs. Edward Todd, college president. The new hall, named Anderson Hall, was built for $75,000. It would be formally dedicated on February 15, 1939. Names of students are listed in the Tacoma Times article dated February 2, 1939. (T. College of Puget Sound 1938 graduation exercises. Students and families are seated in the auditorium during graduation ceremonies at Jones Hall. The college would be giving 87 degrees at its 50th graduation exercise. The college had stated earlier that pressing business conditions would make it hard for 1938 graduates to find steady employment. Those going into teaching would have the easiest time finding positions; chemistry majors would have the hardest. Govenor Clarence D. Martin shakes hands with President Edward H. Todd of the College of Puget Sound during the school's 50th annual convocation. Sponsored by Judge O.G. Ellis, Governor Martin received an honorary doctor of laws degree. Douglas Stanley of New York and Professor Trevor Kincaid of the University of Washington also were awarded honorary degrees. Three alumnae of Vashon College, at Burton on Vashon Island, gather at the school's reunion. Vashon College was in operation 20 years, from its founding in 1892 until the main building was destroyed by fire in 1912 and the college closed.

A large group of unidentified former students of Vashon College at Burton on Vashon Island gathered on August 7, 1938 for a school reunion in front of an unidentified wooden building. Vashon College was in operation 20 years from its opening in 1892 until a major fire closed the school in 1912. The coeducational, non sectarian boarding school grew from an initial enrollment of 78 to a top enrollment of 200 in 1904.

It was a traditional silver chair backed by a lattice of spring flowers with tall baskets of Dogwood, Apple blossoms, lilac and palms. 1939 Pacific Lutheran College May Day Queen, Vivian Lunde, makes her traditional procession from Old Main to her throne. She is attended by three young girls, Mary Olson, Barbara DeBerry and Constance Hanson in period gowns of pastel organdy. Queen Vivian I is wearing a gown of white net over taffeta with a full skirt. It is topped by a white lace jacket with pearl studded flowers. Her bouquet is made of pink roses and snap dragons. The building was constructed in 1927 as the college's science building and was designed by Sutton, Whitney & Dugan, architects. It was re-dedicated in 1932 and named in memory of the late Leonard Howarth.
