The annual Puyallup Valley Daffodil Festival Parade would go through Pacific Avenue in downtown Tacoma, view of the Puyallup Lodge No. 32 Ancient Order of United Workmen float attached to a Commercial Distributing truck, before it proceeded onto the parade on Pacific Avenue. This float received third place in the floats among organizations and lodges (T.N.T., 3/29/47, p. 1).

The F. S. Harmon Manufacturing Co. building at 1938 Pacific Ave. was built in 1909. When the company was founded, it was in the wholesale furniture business. As it grew, it expanded into manufacturing. The Harmon Co. was the only Northwest store holding a franchise for the manufacture of "Serta" mattresses and springs. They also manufactured tables, chairs, bedroom suites and desks, among other furniture. In the early 1940s, they developed "Harmonite" a plastic finish for tables that would ensure durability. (T. 1947 Studio portrait of Col. Wesley B. Hamilton and his wife Bernice E. Hamilton. Col. W.B. Hamilton, a veteran of both world wars and commander of a combat unit throughout five campaigns in Europe, has been recalled to active duty and is assigned to the 6th Army with headquarters in Tacoma. Col. Hamilton will supervise activation, organization, and training of reserve corps units in Tacoma and southwestern Washington. James B. Mitchell was tried and convicted for the murder of Dr. John R. Thompson. Mitchell confessed to slaying two people from Tacoma; Bruce Gullett was also killed by Mitchell but his case would be tried at a later date. Judge Fred G. Remann presided over the hearings. In April of 1947, Susan Jackson, wearing a dress with matching bonnet, sat on top of two cases of Grapette while holding her own 6 oz. bottle of Grapette. The little girl would be featured on two trade publication magazine covers. Her photograph would appear on the June (1947) issue of Grapevine and on the September (1947) issue of American Carbonator & Bottler. Susan's father, Wallace A. Jackson, Jr., operated the Grapette Bottling Co. which was opening a new plant at (then known as) 1522 Commerce St. After several years, the company moved to 1542 Court C, where they continued in operation until 1960 when the bottling plant was taken over by Dr. Pepper. The Tacoma Junior Women's Club was organizing the seventh annual "Eyes for the Blind" carnival and bazaar. The annual Daffodil Festival Parade in downtown Tacoma only had one mishap, an out of control float went rolling down the hill from Broadway, two girls hung on the the posts to keep from getting flung out, no one was hurt, but the float did not quite make it. Mountain View Memorial Park was having outdoor Easter Memorial Services, beginning at 6:30 A.M., with the organ preclude at 6:15 A.M. Special sunrise service buses would be transporting people at 6:00 A.M. and travel direct via South Tacoma Way up to Mountain View. KMO radio would be broadcasting the event live, and rebroadcast the event at 9:30 A.M. View of people gathered at Mountain View grounds.

The May celebration would begin with Hungarian melodies being played by the Stewart band. The May Queen at Stewart was Dolores Lough, her coronation dance would be held in the school's gymnasium, after the outdoor festivities. The annual Puyallup Valley Daffodil Festival parade was a great success. With more than sixty entries in the Tacoma parade, the judges had a hard time selecting which ones should be sweepstakes winners. An estimated 600,000 daffodils were used on parade floats. Rainbow Convention. Seven Rainbow girls are seated in the middle of the auditorium with older persons standing behind them waiting for the ceremony to continue. A large audience is seated around the edges of the auditorium and in the balcony. The installation of newly elected 1948 grand officers marked the end of the Rainbow Girls' 21st session. Camp Fire Girls are divided into three groups: Blue Birds starting at age 7 through age 9, Camp Fire Girls begin at age 10 through 15, and the Horizon Club is for senior high school and junior college age young ladies. The Tacoma Yacht Club Shipmates had just had their annual fashion show, which proved to be the largest style show of the season. Members of the Yacht Club and the Shipmates are gathered together to celebrate their upcoming summer excursions, they appear to be admiring a sailing trophy.

With the war over, Tacomans in 1947 started thinking about visiting Europe. In April of 1947, Hans Lavik of the Lavik Travel Bureau made arrangements for a group from Tacoma to visit Denmark and Norway. After taking a train from Tacoma to New York City, the travelers boarded the M/S Batory bound for Copenhagen. Mr. Lavik and his wife (at the far right) are in front of a young man holding a banner that says, "From Tacoma to Scandinavia". The Laviks hoped to gather first hand information on travel conditions in northern Europe. (T. Times, 4/15/47, p. 10).

Tacoma Sportmen's Club was one of the many civic and social organizations that participated in the Tacoma city-wide, clean-up, plant-up, paint-up, fix-up campaign. The week long campaign was officially proclaimed by Mayor C. Val Fawcett and initiated by the Junior Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by local civic, social and community organizations. In 1947 Tacoma's city fathers passed an official city-wide, clean-up, plant-up, paint-up and fix-up proclaimation. From March 30 through April 5, all Tacomans were called on to help give Tacoma a new "face". New trash containers with "Keep the City Clean" painted on them were set up throughout downtown on street corners. The laundry industry in Tacoma grew during World War II, and continued to grow during the post war era, they offered union jobs and employment security. General Electric Supply Corp. served the Tacoma market through the Seattle branch for many years. In 1945 they established a warehouse and shipping offices in Tacoma. They had their business offices, industrial division and research and development offices all in one location. Company representatives studied the Tacoma area during World War II and determined the industrial needs through the post war era, to determine the probability of General Electric's success in Tacoma. Benbow Lakes Resort advertised "No Mosquitoes" in a 1930 advertisement. They were a family resort with a large inn and also offered individual cottages, all located besides a lake.
