Booth at the second annual Greater Tacoma Home Show by Rossoe Manufacturing, makers of the Rossoe pressure burner floor furnace. The Rossoe model was a diesel oil burning furnance, advertised as "economatic", offering low cost heating. Cut aways show the inner workings of the furnace, important for the more technically advanced home owners.

Booth at the second annual Greater Tacoma Home Show for Zingler Electric Co., 1112 Pacific Ave. The Home Show took place March 21-26, 1950 at the College of Puget Sound fieldhouse. This shot shows the latest in electric appliances- cabinet style sewing machines, an automatic wringer washer, new ranges and Frigidaire refrigerators. The electric sewing machine retailed for $89.95 at Zingler, $9 down and $5 per month.

Dale Carnegie banquet at the New Yorker, 1501 Sixth Ave. The Dale Carnegie course in public speaking was taught at Knapp business College at 114 So. 10th at the corner of Pacific Ave. In 1950 Knapp College, "The school where futures are formed", had been in operation in Tacoma 25 years. In addition to the Dale Carnegie course, they offered training in the fields of stenography, secretarial skills, accounting, tax preparation, business mathematics and law, and the operation of business machines.

Booth at the second annual Greater Tacoma Home Show featuring natural gas appliances, such as ranges, hot water heaters, and space heaters, distributed by Home Gas Co, 140th and Pacific Ave. in Tacoma. The exhibit also sponsored a natural gas cooking demonstration, using propane, on Wedgewood and Tappan ranges of "biskit mix" biscuits topped with "Marva-Lishus" raspberry syrup, with samples provided for hungry show attendees. Raspberry syrup was provided by the Farmers Union Berry Coop of Puyallup.

Booth at the second annual Greater Tacoma Home Show featuring Heatlox heatcolumn- an oil burning pressure type furnace. Heatlox Furnaces Inc. was located in Tacoma at 4320 So. Tacoma Way. A new product in 1950, the heatcolumn was advertised as " The talk of the town." The FHA approved furnace had combustion chamber housing with double wall construction, demonstrated by the cutouts in the display model. The furnace also had a Brundage blower unit with replaceable filters, Honeywell controls, ventilated air spaces and an extra heavy gauge heat exchanger for long life. It sold for $549.00 installed, with convenient monthly payments of $14.95.

Booth at the second annual Greater Tacoma Home Show by Coastal Builders, 3030 River Road in Tacoma, manufacturers of Keystone windows and doors. Keystone manufactured an aluminum combination storm and screen window and door. By 1950, over 4,000,000 were in use. Keystone stopped drafts, saved fuel and eliminated the need for weatherstripping. In addition, they were built to last a lifetime.

Gaily decorated box lunches for two are auctioned off at the annual old fashioned Box Lunch Social in the main lounge of the Student Union building at Pacific Lutheran College. The event where coeds prepare elaborately designed containers with meals to be purchased by and consumed with the highest collegiate bidder was sponsored by the Lutheran Students Association with proceeds going to charity.

Patrick's Day celebration began at 6:30 p.m., with dinner at 8 p.m. and a dance at 9 p.m. Patrick Steele was master of ceremonies for the entertainment that included Tony Karloff, impersonator, and part of the Bellarmine minstrels. Dedication ceremonies for the Seattle-Tacoma Airport at Bow Lake were held on July 9, 1949. After 6 1/2 years of construction, the $11,000,00 field and its $4,000,000 glass and concrete terminal were ready to serve the public and four major airlines--Northwest, Western, Pan-American and United. The passenger terminal and administration building featured underground parking and an open observation deck across the entire field side of the building. TPL-9285

Thomas J. Porro, president of the Tacoma Public Library Board of Trustees, addresses the crowd on the occasion of groundbreaking for the new central building at the Main Library. The March 20, 1951, event began at 4 p.m. and included speeches by Mr. Porro, Mayor John Anderson, and Silas E. Nelsen, library architect. In attendance were members of the city council, library board of trustees, library employees and building contractors. Behind the speaker's podium was an oversized billboard expressing how the library's resources could be used by patrons of all ages and interests. The public service message is a timeless one which still resonates in today's culture. The new portion of the Main Library, built with a concrete frame with Walker-cut stone facing, would be officially dedicated on November 2, 1952. (TNT 3-18-1951, A-6-article on new library)

Party goers from the Lakewood Dance Club's "Alaskapades" party at the Lakewood Center Recreation Hall. Party goers dressed as Eskimos, native Americans and gold rush characters for this costume ball. The hall was decorated with igloos and totem poles to carry out the Gold Rush theme.

Santa Claus attended the Christmas party for Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company women employees in 1950. The 28 women and their male supervisor gather around a Christmas tree in the company's lounge. Each of the women wears a corsage. Pacific Telephone and Telegraph provided an employee benefit plan that provided continuing paychecks during illness after being with the company two years and a pension plan. Four of the attendees at the 1951 Governor's Ball that was held at the Armory in Olympia. Several thousand Washingtonians attended the traditional Govenor's Ball to honor the state's chief executive. This year's ball occurred only two days after the opening of the 32nd legislative session. The Governor's Ball was followed by a legislative dance February 7th given by members of the Legislature.
