March, 1936, portrait of Dr. Edward H. and Mrs. Florence Todd in their home at 1604 No. Alder. Dr. Todd served as president of the College of Puget Sound for 29 years, from 1913 to 1942. Prior to becoming associated with educational work of the Methodist Church, Dr. Todd was a minister of that denomination for 19 years. Dr. Todd was president at C.P.S. for 29 years before being succeeded by Dr. R. Franklin Thompson. On the College of Puget Sound campus in 1934, Kappa Sigma Theta sorority was one of the largest social groups for women, having 41 members on the roll. Dorothy Foxwell was the fall president and Genevieve Grimes served in this role in the spring. The group won the Blanche W. Stevens Scholarship Cup for the highest grade point average. On October 16, 1947 College of Puget Sound officials and West Disinfecting Company representatives inspected the newly refinished gym floor in the CPS Gymnasium which had originally been built in 1924. The floor had been re-done and coated with "lastincote" for durability. Left to right, A. R. Emerson, W. R. Palling, Gerard Banks, W. E. Patrick, Alice C. Bond and John Heinrick. The CPS gymnasium was now ready for indoor sports to begin.

Pacific Lutheran College was first known as Pacific Lutheran Academy between 1898 and 1919, in 1920 they changed Academy to College. In 1944 PLC officially stated they intended to build a new gymnasium, but building was delayed until the end of World War II. Pacific Lutheran College was formally founded in 1891, when the first cornerstone was laid. The school was well established within a few years, and after World War II enrollment dramatically increased and the school grounds expanded. Lea, Pearson and Richards were the architects that designed PLC's Memorial Gymnasium. The dedication ceremonies were planned for December of this year. The new Pacific Lutheran College Memorial Gymnasium was dedicated at the first basketball home game of the season. The new gym has a sound proof radio booth, electric scoreboard, portable bleachers, classrooms, laundry facilities and a trophy ornament area. Dr. Seth Eastvold (right), president of Pacific Lutheran College, along with his wife Enga and Board of Trustees chairman Dr. H.L. Foss of Seattle are gathered together to dedicate the new science hall in October of 1947. The building dedication ceremony will include many guest speakers and a performance by PLC's famous "Choir of the West." PLC had also recently dedicated their new student union building.
