Night school classes at Lincoln High. One of the most popular class offerings was interior design. Forty four women and six men were participating in the class aimed at instructing them in home furnishing and material selection. Approximately half of the team is made up of Japanese Americans. The 1939 Trojans were the State Class B Football Champions. Half of the team is made up of Japanese-American players. Fife was having a very successful year, winning 9 straight games on their way to becoming the Pierce County B League Champions. They continued on to defeat the favored Poulsbo Vikings 7-0 to become the State Champions. State Champion Fife High School Trojans tumble to the ground in a heap in this November 1939 portrait. The victorious Trojans won the State Class B Football Championship with a 7-0 victory over the favored Poulsbo Vikings. At the top of the pyramid is Pete Mello. The Trojans, under the direction of Coach Bill Vinson, had a 10 game unbeaten season, and were the state's highest scoring team, scoring 328 points to their opponents' 19. Model of Lincoln Bowl Stadium and Lincoln Park improvement project. The model was made by Fred Zinn, WPA commercial artist and draftsman, and shows the site of the proposed new Lincoln Bowl. The arena would be located in the gulch between Lincoln High School and Lincoln Park. The school would lose a small strip of land at the rear of the school and the park would lose a small wooded area at the east side of the park. The Bowl would seat 10,000 on concrete steps and cost about $250,000. Proponents of the Bowl were trying to get it on the November 8th ballot, proposing that the district levy be increased by 1 mill. to raise the $50,000 needed to match $200,000 in federal grant funds. In December of 1938, the Lincoln High School band and their director Frank Anarde (left) posed for the first time as a whole group in their new uniforms. Stadium High School 1939 Basketball Team. The team, under the direction of Coach V.G. Lowman, was on top of the Tacoma prep standings. Considered short for a basketball team, they made up for their lack of altitude with sheer attitude. The fighting Tigers, in at least six of their games, came from far behind to win. Team members are, front row left to right, Art DeMaris, Matt Kapovich, Bob Loftness, Wes Hudson, Marion Klarich and Russ Soper. Back row, Dick Donelson, Dave Livingston, Dave Doud, Coach Lowman, Fred Angus, Warren Harvey and George Warfer.
