This is the original Annie Wright Seminary designed by architects Boone & Meeker as it appeared circa 1886. The private school for girls opened two years before in September of 1884, thanks to its benefactor, Charles B. Wright. The building's foundation came from Wilkeson stone and brick. Its sharp gables and turrets added to the impressive ediface. A gymnasium was added in 1899 and was the sole remaining building left when the school was razed in 1924. Due to growing enrollment, a new campus arose at 827 Tacoma Ave. N. the same year.

Miss Arlene Wilson of Stewart Jr. High School was declared the school's third annual "posture queen" at a school assembly on Friday May 7, 1943. Demonstrating the posture that made her the winner, Miss Wilson holds the recognition plaque that she received from Principal George Burlingame as she stands in front of her court of "posture duchesses". The twelve girls represented the twelve physical education classes taught by Miss Elsie Morris. On April 24, 1945, at Washington School, 3701 No. 27th St., Patsy Phillips (left) and Judy McMillan stood at attention while Ronnie Schermerhorn blew a salute on his trumpet for the World Security Conference to be held in San Francisco. Campfire Girls and Blue Birds throughout the nation took part in identical ceremonies designed to make the scouts think about what they most desired for the world and determine the part they could play to make those desires come true.The World Security Conference was one of the international meetings that led to the formation of the United Nations. Mr. Lennard Anderson, director of music at Central School, was photographed reviewing some of the arrangements to be performed for students at the February 18, 1948 concert by the Pacific Northwest Symphony Orchestra. He was playing with his right hand and pointing at the music with his left hand for a group of fifth grade students at the school. The students were, L-R, Jean Needham, Francis Moore, Ryo Inouye, Darrell Strain, Jeanine Miller and Marlys Bod. The February concert would be the last of a series of concerts performed specifically for children, presented by the Tacoma Philharmonic Association and underwritten by Medosweet Dairies. The large Tudor Gothic design building at the bottom is Annie Wright Seminary, 827 Tacoma Avenue North, which opened at this address in 1924. Stadium High School was built in 1891, it was built in the French Chateau style and originally designed by architect A. B. Hewitt, architect Frederick Heath remodeled the building and changed it into the school. Stadium Bowl was built in 1909, it has been remodeled many times because of mudslides and weather damage. The buildings were designed by Sutton, Whitney & Dugan, architects. The Tudor Gothic brick buildings are covered by ivy. The roofs are studded by dormers. Expansive grounds surround the buildings.

Tacoma Public Schools served Thanksgiving meals to about 12,000 students with children receiving turkey, dressing and all the holiday fixings. The school cooks and their assistants were busy preparing the special meal all day. In January 1949 Annie Wright Seminary students would be traveling to Olympia where they would visit the Governor and the State government buildings. The Tacoma Panhellenic honored graduating senior high school girls and their mothers at their annual tea on April 24, 1948, at the Great Hall at Annie Wright. The program consisted of talks by Miss Maxine Blake and Miss Jacquine Norback about college life from the student's view point. Lona Huseby played Chopin and Debussy on the piano.
