The Olympus hotel had just finished a two year remodeling project, initiated by the hotel manager, Virgil West. The new Mirror Room would offer dinner and dancing, and would feature the popular organist, Edith Stern with Ray Edwards. Olympus Hotel was owned by Paul Sceva and managed by Virgil West. West had initiated the remodeling project just after he became manager, two years ago. The Frontier Room was accessible through the back entrance and through the main lobby; it was decorated like a 19th century inn, with amber glass and darkened wood rafters, historic murals of Washington State and could accommodate 100 people. The Savage-Scofield Building, designed by Heath and Twichell architects in 1908, houses the Tacoma Hotel. The hotel's main building at 913 A Street was destroyed by a fire in 1935. Banquet in Army-Navy Room for Buick Motor Company Distributors, Mueller-Harkins, Rudy Mueller. Buick dealers and salesmen of Southwest Washington previewed the new Buick Special at the Mueller-Harkins Motor Company. On March 2, 1937, the Tacoma Times ran their Spring Fashion section, featuring two couples modeling the newest styles of suits and coats from Klopfenstein's Inc. Pictured left to right at the Winthrop Hotel were Nancy Hawks, of Dallas Texas, in a classic Rothmoor coat, Don Baker in a Hart-Schaffner suit, Irene Tollefson in Rothmoor and Vic Vine in Hart Schaffner. "Miss Grunow" provided a little cheesecake as the company introduced their new refrigerator at the Southwest Washington Grunow Dealers banquet at the new Tacoma Hotel, formerly known as the Tacoma Hotel Annex, on February 18, 1937. The "Pur-Aire" refrigerator featured the "econo-phase vacuum unit" for fast freezing and low cost, a Grunow aerator to keep food fresher and safer and a super size evaporator. Southwest Washington Grunow Dealers banquet at the new Tacoma Hotel, formerly known as the Tacoma Hotel Annex. The annex served as the Tacoma Hotel after the main historic building at 913 A St. was destroyed by fire in October of 1935. The annex opened as the Tacoma Hotel in January of 1936, after extensive remodeling. Grunow manufactured appliances and this banquet was intended to introduce their new refrigerator. Boat show at Hotel Winthrop. The first major Tacoma Boat Show in several years was held the week of August 17-22, 1948 in the lobby of the Hotel Winthrop. Western Boatbuilding displayed their Torpedo Flyer speed boat, and Pleasurecraft brought a fully rigged sailing dingy with a 19-foot mast. There were several models of boats on display including a cabin cruser built by Western Boat along with Chinese sampans and junks.

The Winthrop Hotel was designed by W. L. Stoddard and Roland E. Borhek; it was built by F. A. Pratt and A. I. Watson. It first opened in May 1925 and was named after Theodore Winthrop, explorer and writer. In 1940 they began offering residential apartments on the top floors of the hotel. Exterior of the Hotel Winthrop for North Pacific Bank note. The building is ten stories on the front facing Broadway, made of stone on the lower floors and brick above. At the top is a separate roof line, perhaps a penthouse. The busy street below shows automobiles, pedestrians and a bus. The first floor houses a shoe store, men's apparel. Heading down 9th Street is the entrance to the Coffee Shop and the Fountain Lunch counter.

The newly opened "Olympus Cafe" and Supper Club, located in the Olympus Hotel, is celebrating their grand opening. Lettering on the column at the back of the room reads, "Activian Room". Draperies are open showing another room beyond. TPL-6422

The newly opened "Olympus Cafe" and Supper Club, located in the Olympus Hotel, is celebrating their grand opening. Bert Sundegren, owner, stated it is "Tacoma's newest and Washington's finest" restaurant. The location had large columns, a tile floor and ornate chandeliers. TPL-6421

The Park Hotel stood at the corner of South 8th and A Street in downtown Tacoma for just short of 70 years. It was built in 1908 from plans by the architectural firm of Heath & Twitchell. The reinforced concrete building was the only structure in Tacoma included in the article "The Architecture of the Pacific Northwest" published by The Architectural Record in September, 1909. In its last years it had become a residence hotel for low income, elderly men and women. Considered to be "undistinguished as old buildings go," it was torn down in 1977 to make room for an 18-car parking lot.

View of two-story Jeri-Lin Motel. The Jeri-Lin Motel, located at So. 72nd and Pacific Avenue, was built in 1962 by Bozich Construction Co. Constructed of brick and wood, the structure had a flat roof and sported dots of various sizes as decorations on its outer walls. The name of the motel, the Jeri-Lin, was written in cursive lettering on one end of the brick wall. An attractive light colored decorated concrete block wall and modest landscaping enhanced the smooth lawn.
