Puyallup Indian Tribe members gathered on Feb. 9, 1891, as part of their monthly neighborhood meetings. This was the time when Indian families gathered to discuss the business of running the reservation and making improvements in the quality of life. The women were not generally included in business affairs of the tribe, which would explain their absence in the photograph.

ca. 1908. A scene in the Big Bend, circa 1908. Threshing 3 miles south of Waterville, Washington. This area of north central Washington State was a wheat farming community. The fertile soil, dry summers and heavy snows in winter produced abundant crops. During the past season circa 1907, however, wheat ran from twelve to thirty bushels per acre, a lighter yield than normal but as prices remained good, the farmer did not lose in the long run. The town of Waterville became the Douglas County seat in 1887, and according to its Chamber of Commerce, farming remains a mainstay of the local economy. This Picture is 'Twin" to 'Mystery Photo'
The files at the News Tribune contained this picture identified only as the Woman's Club House, until the publication two weeks ago of a 'mystery photo' with a plea for identification. Now the date and subject of the photo are somewhat established.
The Woman's Club House stood at 426 Broadway until 1961. It had been a gathering place for Tacomans, containing large halls, sitting rooms and dining areas for teas and luncheons and had belonged to the Tacoma Woman's Club House Association since 1915.

Pasting Tacoma All Over the World
Here is shown H. C. Weaver, president of H. C. Weaver Productions, Inc., pasting what is known as a 24 sheet on the Market street side of the Rialto Theater. The bill tells its own story, but this picture tells more. It is the start of real publicity for Tacoma, as "Hearts and Fists" will be advertised in trade journals in getting it before exhibitors, then in local papers where it is to be shown and finally on the silver sheet before audiences - and the name Tacoma is tacked securely to this publicity.
