Lincoln High School. Lincoln Park High School opened August 31, 1914, built from a design by Heath and Gove, Architects. It was built of local Wilkeson stone and precision brick. In 1917, the school became Lincoln High School. (T. Times)

In March of 1940, Stadium High School presented their 28th annual opera "Desert Song." The 200 students in the cast rehearsed three months to perform the light opera March 28-30. The lead was played by Donna Mae Jaden, who later achieved fame as musical and film star Janis Paige. All City Orchestra on stage at Jason Lee School. The All City Junior High School Orchestra represented six junior high schools as they prepared for the upcoming All City Music Festival to occur on May 3, 1940 at Jason Lee. The orchestra would be one of the major attractions of the festival which also included the All City Elementary School Orchestra and various glee and choral groups. The band had recently received a superior rating, highest possible, at district while competing with fourteen other bands. Stadium High School Class of 1940 graduation at the Armory. 649 students (318 boys and 331 girls) received their diplomas on June 6, 1940 as the third largest Stadium High School graduating class. It was the school's 57th graduation exercises. Graduates marched in to the tune of "Pomp and Circumstance" while proud family members and friends cheered and applauded. Shirley Nyman was the school's valedictorian and Mills College scholarship winner and four students shared the honor of being salutatorians: Dorothy Selden, David Glenn, Jr., Ruthi Crain and Patricia Russell. Harry Pitcher (kneeling, far left), the engineer in charge of construction of the new Clover Park High School shop building, supervised the laying of the cornerstone on March 10, 1941. The $16,000 shop building was part of the national defense education service project. It was financed 50-50 by the school district and the WPA. The building was scheduled to be completed in June, when the school would begin to conduct both day and night classes for enlisted men. Planned courses include metal and wood working, blueprint reading, machine drawing, pre-aviation and completion of high school studies. Clover Park was chosen as the location for the facility due to its proximity to Ft. Lewis, Camp Murray and McChord Airfield. Fife High School's hoopmen defeated Clover Park, 44 to 31, in an exciting game at Lakewood that packed the gymnasium. Racking up Fife's 11 to 1 winning season were: Spear, Rowe, Dreyer, Evancich and Vinson, along with substitutes Sakahar, Hamamishi, Herting, Wilcox and Shagami. (T. Times, 2/20/1941, p. 15).

Staff members of the Clover Park High School newspaper, the Clover Leaves, are pictured printing the paper on a mimeograph machine. Left to right are: Production Manager Clinton Richardson, Sports Editor LeRoy Beckwith and Advertising assistant Ardys Pratt. Clinton Richardson wears an apron to protect his clothing from spilled ink. Upholding its tradition, the school paper took first class honors in the National Scholastic Press Association competition. In 1941, the flying fingers of these hardworking journalists and typists helped ensure that the Clover Park High School paper, "The Clover Leaves," was always ready for the presses. For the 1940-41 school year the paper had made several improvements including expanding the features section and adding a junior high section written by the junior high students. Upholding its traditions, the "Clover Leaves" took first class honors in the National Scholastic Press Association competition. While the trio lying on their stomachs takes aim, the upright group appears to be studying their accuracy on the targets. The Rifle Club was designed to promote the correct use of firearms, both for recreation and in national defense. The Club, after the departure of their regular advisor, got a late start in the school year, but still managed to hold two matches with Marymount, losing one and tying the other.
